just noticed PR3 cam gears on LS any more power from this?
Well i have a smog ref appoiintment tomorrow and i was trying to find my plastic cover for my gears and i couldnt so i was thinking aww i'll tell them i took it off so they can see im using stock cam gears. So i was like hmm should work maybe then i look and im like yup PR3 they wont notice. WAIT PR3!!?? Thats a B16 gear wtf? So im wondering if there is a difference in size from the Ls giving me more power or less power from these gears...anyone know?
A couple of things. First off, when it comes to Honda part numbers, they retain the part number used on the very first application of the part in question. In other words, Honda found it to be cheaper to use the same cam gears that they already had for the B16A than to make new cam gears specifically for the LS, GSR, B20, etc. And since they are the same, they keep the same part number.
As for size, all cam gears must be twice the diameter of the crank gear in order for the cams to always spin at half the speed (unless a jackshaft setup is used, as in some Nissans). A gear of a different size would cause severe problems.
