I dunno... What does it look like its missing? I found some parts places online. But there are no forums for tech stuff. All of it is just for parts... Keep the help comming. How would i go about cleaning the moter out. There is some rust inside? Does it matter? The piston pumps cleanly.

It's going to take a lot more than those two gaskets to get that thing running again. How long was that thing sitting outside? 2-strokes are pretty simple to work on but you may be better off just starting fresh.

I would go with an engine from a popular bike. You'll find more of them around, as well as any replacement parts you may need in the future. There are a buttload of CBR F2 and F3 engines on eBay all the time. Those are reliable engines.

I don't know the first thing about hooking up an engine to a go-cart, though, so this is all conjecture on my part.

Thanks for the input guys.
Heres a page on info on this thing. http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Dunes/9789/
I mean ive had this thing sitting at my grandparents since i was like 10... im 18 now. Turns out, theres SOMEWHAT of a community. However, theres no good board for them... They seam pretty sweet. I have seen videos of carts with bike motors on them... That sht is insane, the guys sideways every chance he gets. Well guys your helping alot so far... not a bad first day for a post. But keep it comming.

I am goign to have my friends dad take a look at it and help me out with the project. My friend took a year of small motors in highschool so he said he know sthe basics and stuff.

I was wandering how i should go about trying to rebuild the motor. Should i just take apart everything and spray it down with carb cleaner and maybe brush it off. Same with the cylinder?

I have a 91 Mr2 T and i have done some mods like boost controller and gauges etc... I want to learn about the inside of the motor now. I figured this "Odyssey" rebuild will help me learn some stuff.

Anywho keep the help comming guys. Thanks alot, Ryan

PS ill take a look at those motors on ebay.

Your best bet is to get a Haynes or Clymer manual for it and get a good exploded view or a how to section on rebuilding the engine.

You can then determine what all you need to buy, and it should give you a good how to on rebuilding the engine.

From the looks of it though, you may have a hundred or so in rebuilding the engine and another good sized chunk on sourcing out some correct wheels and tires for the rear and a seat (if you dont have the seat). It all depends on what tools you have, and how correctly you want to rebuild it.

There is also the misc. cables and lines that have probably gotten old from lack of use and time.

Good luck, those things are a lot of fun when they are up and running.

yeah that motor is sooooo far gone! id say 98% of those parts are useless. it would be much cheaper, give you more power, easier and faster to buy another motor. a 600 would be insane on that 120lbs frame, or whatever it weighs.

you may be able to still use the pulley drive system, but i would go with a chain drive. you could get a rear sprocket from a bike, make sure you get a BIG ONE, remove the pulley from the axle and weld on the new sprocket. i think the combo of the big sprocket with a very small one on the front and the wheels being smaller then a bikes you could get usable gearing.

i recently rebuilt and sold my 1983 honda odyssey. after looking at your pictures i think you're missing the following: pull-start, ignition switch, throttle cable, etc. and the most important thing you're missing on the chassis is the 3-point harness. believe me, you're gonna need it

it will not be cost-effective to rebuild your current motor. i would be concerned about these things: the piston is dirty, the crank case and crank are rusty, the cylinder walls look pretty sad, your clutch housing is rusty, etc. i would also question the condition of your intake manifold and reed cage. that easily adds up to over $650 in repairs. i recommend you buy a new motor. for example, this rebuilt odyssey motor is a steal at the current bid of $400:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...43982

you can also custom install a different motor and fabricate your drivetrain for the same price you'd pay to rebuild your current motor.

don't forget that you'll need to inspect these parts as well: check the function of the brake caliper, check the inside of your gas tank for rust, check the condition of the carburetor and the entire clutch assembly including the flywheel.

hope this helps

speed isn't the issue. he needs it for climbing hills. odysseys tip easily on inclines and a 3-point will keep him in his seat. i've never rolled over without a harness on but i imagine it would ***** up your whole day

Lol guys... Lisa please keep with this post since you are familiar with them. I just ordered a shop manual for the thing. They really should make a more up to date forum for these. About the harness, do you guys mean a seat belt? My grandfather gave me a seat with the belt that comes over the shoulders and accross the waist.

I now know it will probably cost too much to rebuild the motor. I have been looking around on ebay. I found a link to an auction that ended about 3 weeks ago for a fl250 motor which was rebuilt and sand blasted red and silver. It ended for 200$!!! I really wish i had this thing then. 2 days ago a cbr 600 full swap went for 350 buy it now. Can i fit this motor in this frame? Ill prolly need to find a fabricator or something huh? Keep the help comming guys!
Thanks alot, Ryan

The thing you have is a Honda, and this is Honda-Tech: but should note that this is first and foremost a car forum. The motorcycle part which you posted in is mostly honda car guys who also happen to have sportbikes. It's pure luck Lisa posted in here with her experience. I'd have guessed you would get no response like that at all. These havent been made for what, almost 20 years now?

If you do find a non-late model Honda ATV specific forum let me know, because there isn't one that I know of. And I've looked. Maybe try thumper talk, as they get a lot of traffic from guys with these kinds of toys.

If you go with a 600cc sportbike engine you better be comfortable with fabricating things. Better to go with something that bolts it, but it would be super fabulous with the sportbike engine.

Yea ive looked everywhere for a forum. There are a couple, however they totally suck and are outdated. I figured this forum might help since i plan on putting a bike motor on it anyways. And no i dont know anything about fab stuff but i am going to try to find someone who is.
