Default air filter question

when i brought my gsr a month ago, it came with a generic intake. the air filter was really dirty but the it was loud when the vtec kicked in.

today i put a new air filter in and it doesnt sound like vtec is kicking in. i reset the ecu and my oil level is fine

is this airfilter messing with the computer? or is vtec kicking in smooth so i cant hear it?

K and N is the best filter in my opinion. and the intake should not have a bearing on how loud the vtec is, it should just whistle a bit.

A'PEXi Power Filter is the best one, check the great intake test with the search function. Titanmotorsports did the test, K&N was number two in power and filtration only behind the A'PEXi filter. However the K&N filter is about 1/2 the price as the A'PEXi piece.

If you buy a really cheap air intake system or air filter, sometimes it wont suck in the air as well. Cheap generic ones tend to have leaks in them. My friend bought one off of ebay and put it into his car and you couldnt hear a thing. Then he purchased a K + N from a shop and that thing whistles like a beauty. Pay a little more and get a waaay better quality product.

lmao thats the funniest thing ive heard..."it could be cause i have an aem intake" all your brand name intake is is a pipe with a foam filter at the end...not magic in a box...no difference between the piping from ebay and the piping from aem...same stuff...its like buying brand name thumb tacks...

I don't agree... mine fit just perfect. I would recommend an e-bay intake w/ a nicer filter and that should be fine. Most of us using these intakes don't even need to worry about the "sound harmonics" or w/e **** AEM uses to grab a few extra hp, you just need piping to reroute where your drawing your air from. When it comes to spending $40.00 for something that almost works as well as something for $100 plus I'm down. My .02

^^^this man knows what hes talking about....its a security factor...you spend 100 bucks on some pipes and a filter...you want to believe youre faster than the guy with the ebay intake...truth is...youre not...you just paid 3 times as much for your carb sticker...

And if you need'em, those carb stickers can still be made for cheaper.
