there are about 5 across the top, one on each side and two underneath. there might be more or less but those are the places to look.
like lohatch said, 5 across the top underneath the hatch, 1 on each side, and 2 underneath. there might be a clip underneath too...

Old thread, but is there a specific order of putting the bolts back in for putting the rear bumper back on? I am thinking side screws, then 5 top screws, then bottom 2 bolts, but I am having a hell of a hard time keeping it aligned. Does anyone have any tricks? (this is my first time taking off the rear bumper to clean the inside and right now I spent an hour trying to get it back on properly to no avail)
I just tried putting in the top screws first, then the side screws, and the alignment looks okay, but the bottom holes on the bumper are no where near where the bolts need to thread into on the chassis/bumper beam. I understand that the Civic service manual talks about the rear spacer and shows a picture but it makes absolutely no sense to me, and does not look like anything I have physically in front of me.

bumppp.. im really looking for an answer tonight. this thing is annoying the hell out of me. I cannot get both sides to go in flush. I do not see how to slide the sides into or around the side spacer.
Installation is the reverse of removal. What part you are you having this much difficulty with that you bumped (and keep bumping) a 7 year old thread? Put the bolts in loose until you get all of them in then tighten them up. This should take you no more than 5-10 minutes TOPS.
Hmm.. I mainly would like someone to explain how to get the sides to sit flush. The side spacer doesn't seem to do anything or allow any part of the bumper to slide into or over it. It is definitely not as easy as you are making it seem. Have you ever done this on a 92-95 hatch or are you just saying that it would take 5-10 mins cause it took you that long on your other car be it a coupe or a different gen.
bumping a 7 year old thread is more appropriate than making a new thread when its on almost the same topic, so yeah.

Put the middle bolt in on the top row, screw the sides to the rqp slots and line them up as you tighten. Put the rest of the bolts in on the top and bottom. I don't see what the big hassle is, I've done this to several civics and an integra no problem whatsoever. Took about 5 minutes.
Haha, I don't know the exact problem but it is no where as easy to align as the front bumper; I can do that one in about 5 minutes as well. What are the rqp slots that you mention? I know that theres a section that slides over a piece of metal and under the tail lights but I don't see what that weird curve shape is on the bumper. On the very ends there is a cut out that is curved and it looks like it should also slide in some where.
Is this the side spacer that appears as illustration number 17 or am I missing this piece on both sides some how?

This is what I have.

This part of the bumper doesn't seem to slide into anything.

Hmm, are you sure I'd be able to put the tail lights back in with the bumper on first? With the front bumper, there's basically no way to put in the headlights with the bumper still on.
Taillights are bolted on from the backside, on the inside of the car. You'll be able to get them back on afterwards. Whereas the headlight mounts are covered up by the front bumper.
True. Hmm.. I don't really feel like taking apart my rear interior just to put on this bumper. It really shouldn't take this long to get the rear bumper to align correctly. Something is seriously wrong here. I am just going to have to leave it ghetto looking. Before, only the left side stuck out a little but I've seen that on many hatches and now both sides are sticking out. Great.
i feel your anger like me my car came with a aftermarket bumper so i have nothing as well.. i hope where the top 5 clips snap in just goes into the meddle on car because i have no spacer or no sliders clips on the side ...how do those even stay onto car where the bumper slides into? can anyone can post a picture of a stock back end of a eg with bumper off thanks.....
