I found a 96 F3 for $2000
Hey guys.
I found a 1996 CBR F3 for 2000 dollars. I went to check it out today. The condition is pretty nice. It's got a few chips which have been painted over and stuff - no big deal. There are small blemishes here and there. The bike as 14,000 miles or so and has the smokin' joes' style paint. It starts right up cold and seems to run fine. The only problem is that it has a salvage title. Apparently some previous owners bought it without plastic at an auction. There are no signs of a bad crash - nothing looks bent or cracked. There are light scratches on the ends of the front brake and clutch levers, but nothing on the footpegs.
Anyway, I think that $2000 is a good deal for this bike since they typically seem to go for $3000 to $4000 - at least on cycle trader.
So, basically give me some support so I can buy it confidently. Or, tell me it's a bad idea. Thanks a lot, guys.

Have another friend check it too, he might spot problems that you didn't see. Also, just to let you know, you can't get comprehensive insurance with a salvage title. That means if you get jacked you are fucked.
Well, all of my friends that aren't mechanically retarded are living out of state. It's my opinion and that of the seller. As far as insurance, I'm only going for liability. Collision insurance and such will cost me over 1000 per year, and a totalled bike will cost me 2000. That includes a 1000 dollar deductible. Sooooo...I'd be paying 1000 per year for insurance plus a 1000 dollar deductible to fix a 2000 dollar bike. Wow, that's worth it. Thanks for the responses so far. Keep em coming.
just use good judgement, as long as it doesnt have a bent/cracked frame or swing arm, i'd prolly buy it. $2000 is cheap. I bought my 98 F3 for $2600 with a clean title and 14k miles, so show up with $1800 cash and see if he'll sell it.
kook on the frame/swingarm/frontend for cracking paint or oxidation. that will usually tell you if it has been down really hard. i'd offer him like 17-1800

By the way, I have never ridden or owned a bike before. This will be my first, and I figure cheaper is better seeing as how many people drop their first bike. I don't know. What is oxidation?
Thanks for the advice so far.
