rotors are fried
after being abused at over 4 autox's and just hard street use my rotors are warped baaad. Should I just go ahead and resurface them or replace them with stock rotors or get a bigger size and how big can fit on the stock rims? The rotors just seem small for a 2700 pound fat ***
i emailed fastbrakes a little while ago andhe said you can get the rear larger caliper and the front brake kit and they will fit in stock 15's. the aem kit doesnt though i dont think. go to fastbrakes.com
It's not the size of the rotor that will keep them from warping. I've raced auto-x and HARD steet use on the same STOCK rotors for the last 3 years and they're in PERFECT condition. If yours are warped, then replace 'em. To keep 'em from warping again, you MUST cool them down properly when you race, or they'll warp again.
Couple of tips:
After you do an auto-x run, once you come to a final stop, don't let the car sit in the same position for more than 30 seconds. Each 30 seconds, roll the car forward about 6 inches. Do this for the next 5 minutes or so. The idea is to keep the pads from resting on the same place on the rotors for any length of time to allow the rotors (& pads) to cool down evenly.
I even do this after "spirited highway driving" and coming to a stop at an exit ramp for instance, or at a red light if I'm gonna have to wait for any length of time.
Another stoplight trick is to hold position with the parking brake instead of the footbrake... There's always less heat on the rear rotors than the front and the parking brake only engages the rears.
