Default LX to DX cluster swap?

Hi, not new just the screen name... ok moving on. I got an 89 lx and a 91 dx. I am wondering if swaping these sukkas will be an easy plug in job or will I have to modify harnessess...and by the way I want to use the lx on the dx and the dx on the lx just because lx has tach..

Switching from the 89-91 raises a whole lot of wiring issues, but it shouldn't be that hard to drop a 90-91 LX cluster in the DX. I do think there are some minor wiring issues, nothing major.

It's no problem swapping them from an dx to lx and vise versa. Shoot, even the crx's will fit in there too, hence why I'm driving around with one in my hatch. But the main problem your gonna have is the wiring. Swapping an 88-89 cluster with a 90-91 won't work cause the wiring is different for those years and vise versa. The only way for to be plug and play is to swap them according to the years. ex: 88-89 dx cluster will work with any 88-89 clusters too, but not 90-91. Same goes for 90-91.

throughout 88-91, the tach wire has always been the blue one.

The tach wiring is already in place for all '88-91 cars, regardless of whether they came with a tach or not.

It would be plug-and-play IF you were swapping from a '90-91 car into another '90-91 car. However, since you are swapping from an '88-89 into a '90-91, you will need to swap the cluster hoods (since '88-89 cluster is smaller and shaped differently vs. '90-91), and also do a bit of re-wiring on the plugs.

You should be able to find wiring diagrams for both clusters with the Search function.
