Default 81.5 headgasket and 81.25 bore?

Well, I need to have my LS block bore/honed when I get my new rods/pistons. I already have a 81.5mm headgasket, but I figured I would be better off removing as little material from the block as possible, so I will probably go to 81.25. Can I use the 81.5mm gasket with a 81.25 bore?

I searched, but it ended up being a lot of crap.

i think you can get away with it NA if the block and head are freshly surfaced and you are meticulous with the headbolt torque and pattern. the less firering area to seal, the easier it is blown out by detonation. keep it in mind.

i personally wouldnt do it.. if it blows, you wasted a good headgasket and are now buying another ontop of doing the job twice. if it doesnt, youve got one less part to buy for your next 81.5 project.

I'm I correct in assuming that a 81.25mm bore is less likely to crack sleeves etc. than a 81.5mm bore?

going by nothing else, yes. sleeve cracking is more of a b20 problem or an overbored overrevved b18..

the motor that does not detonate is the motor that will have the least trouble of that nature. having a little more meat cant hurt, and atleast youve got one more overbore left if you go 81.25.. hows the piston selection though?

Piston selection seems to be fine with either....I've been watching the classifieds to find a good deal, so It'll probably come down to whatever I can get the cheapest. Thanks for the help.
