Quick autocross class question...
For some reason, I can't get onto the SCCA web page (it's http://www.scca.org right?).
Could someone tell me if a carbon fiber hood is legal in STS? I raced with the stock hood last year in STS and I am afraid that it will bump me into DSP (hopefully not SM or something).
Does anyone know? thanks

A carbon fiber hood is what got Noah Brandon in trouble with his STS Subaru at the 2000 Seattle Tour. Check on the STX rules, but I'm thinking it's at least a Street Mod change at the National level. You may be able to get away with it at the local level, if your competition agrees (or doesn't care, or is just plain stupid).

If you race in Columbus next year, people *will* have something to say about a CF hood. Small things will be overlooked in STS on a local level, but not a CF hood. If you are serious about autox, get some R compound tires and run SM or lose the CF hood and play in STS.
I'm sure you could plead novice, but as soon as you beat someone that cares about local points, they'll start to yell.

no one complained about my ZC hood here, but that was in CSP and it's metal. this year, it doesn't matter because my competition will be a Caterham Super 7. lucky me, with my B16 i get to go to DM if SM2 doesn't come, and i get to race a car that is faster than every other car by 10 seconds!! second place, here i come!!
Hmmm...well I'm still pretty new, so I guess that I could play dumb, but I would fell kind of bad deceiving everyone.
I would not be competitve in a SM class, because I'm not really competitve in STS yet
The last two autocrosses I went to had 30+ people just in STS.
I may just bring both hoods (fit one in the hatch) and ask when I get there.

Trust me...you'll get bumped if you show up in a CF hood in STS. There are a lot of competitive STS people at ovr that will care, unless you always finish DFL.
Why don't you invest in a set of cheap rims (or steelies) and some used kumhos and go play around in SM? If you aren't serious about autox and just out for fun, then it really doesn't matter what class you are in. If you are serious, then just switch hoods on raceday or get some R compound tires to run on.

Does anyone know? thanksWhat Todd said. Carbon fiber or any hood change is a no-no in street prepared. Cowl induction hoods are popular in the domestic muscle car crowd, and before SM, that was an automatic CP at the local level, EM otherwise.

Fiberglass is a big nono also.. unless a differnt version/year of your car came with a fiberglass hood also and you car is listed on the same line in the rule book.
For Example with my challenger the 1970 Challenget T/A came from the factory with a fiberglass hood on it and all challengers are listted on the same line in the rule book, so I could replace the 1970 Hood on my 73 Challenger and still be legal.
And there are no rules against gutteted cats in sp, in fact most people remove them.
