Default h23 rods and h22 oil squirters question

im sure a few of you know what i have done, but lemme recap for the people who dont remember/dont know. i have an h22 block with an h23 crank and h23 rods with JDM h22 typeS pistons. with that said... when we did my engine swap i had low oil pressure, not so low that the light would stay on, but not enough for VTEC to hit and basically i was always paranoid that something would break soon.

so in an effort to fix the oil pressure issue, my mechanic decided to take out the oil squirters. well this didnt work. a lil while later we decided that the only thing left to do was replace the oil pump. sure enough when we took off the old one the circle part in the middle was scarred to hell and back. this was the source of the problem.

now i wanted to put my oil squirters back in b/c i figure that since h22's have them stock then my h23vtec should have them also. but my mechanic said that the h23 rods have those little holes that are built in oil squirters. then he went on to say that most of the people online that have problems with h23vtec's is not because they dont have oil squirters (b/c according to him the h23 rods have squirters built in like i just said) but b/c most people that do h23vtecs dont use an h22 oil pump which has a higher pressure than h23 oil pumps. he also said that if we put the h22 oil squirters back in then the oil pressure would drop and that too much oil on the crank would actually rob hp.

so my question is... should i not worry about putting the squirters back in seeing as how the h23 rods have squirters built in AND im using a brand new h22 oil pump? or should i still make him put my squirters back in?

Your mechanic is talking out of his ***. I'm sure he may be a good mechanic, but he is talking on a subject that he has no clue about.

Yes, most rods have passaged in them to distribute oil. These are NOT oil squirters, though. The H22 and H23 have not been proven to have different flow rates, that has nothing to do with why people use either of them in their motors.

If you do reinstall the oil squirters, then you will lose a bit of oil pressure, because you will be using some of the oil system's pressure to shoot the oil to the bottom of the pistons. When using the H23 bottom end, IMO, it is best to keep as much oil pressure at the main and rod bearings as possible. That, and combined with the fact that the only time you will get the pistons hot enough to NEED the oil squirters is staying at very high RPM's for extended periods of time, the oil squirters should not be used in an H23 VTEC.

Not only that, I honestly don't see how you got the squirters to fit with the H23 crank in the first place!

What are you doing for tuning? I've never actually heard of anyone actually using the H22 Type S pistons in an H23 VTEC and the motor lasting long....

yeah ever since the swap he's proven himself to be not so great afterall lol

im getting my **** tuned at Titan motorsports soon. i just need to call and make an appointment to get on the dyno. they tune with uberdata and that'll work well with the p28.

so you're saying that i dont need the squirters?
