HELP!!! Ijust drop my anti seeze cap into the combustion chamber!!!
If its plastic Just start it up i Suppose. I dont think it will do much harm.
Someone wanna chime in on this.

turn the motor over with a ratchet until that cylinder is at TDC. get some tweezers and pick it out. not that big of a crisis.

I try and rotate the eng and it stops (cant turn any more)when the piston that the cap is in reaches tdc!!

is there reasoning behind this?
Is not the best idea, but you are not going to get it out without taking off the head..
its plastic. there is no combustion.
But hey good luck trying to FISH for it with bubble gum, Then that will get stuck down there too...
The cap isnt going to just sit in the middle, its going to go to the edge where you cant reach.
Just to clearify,
Pull the EFI fuse and CRANK the motor over, it wont start but just crank.

We don't know how big the cap is. Nor do we know how tough it is.
Big cap? The starter WILL push it into the valves. Valves don't like being pushed around, and they can be scratched too.
Let me put it this way.
I dropped in the plastic protector cap off a sparkplug in once.
I used a clean metal rod...stuck the gum on really good, and poked around a bit.
I bent the end of it a bit.
2 minutes poking...problem solved.

it's hard to believe that the valves would open far enough for it to get into the Combustion chamber. are you sure it went in there? I once thought I dropped one of the bolt for my oil pick up tube into the rotating assembly and I looked for hours untill I realized it bounced several yards from where I was working

Ill keep checking... ok, I had to rotate the engine the opposite way because it didnt move any more. I dont think that this is too good for the eng, but what are the reasons for this? I keep rotation it forward, then back, hoping to free it up is this bad? Thanks
Can't be good, but I doubt you did any harm, really...
Just keep looking, and if you have to, pull the head off. May be a good time to do a headgasket and some ARP studs while you're in there

go to a real tool store
they got this super slim metal stick with a red button at the end, and 3 lil metal fingers..
when u press the button on the back the teeth come out from the stick and when u let go, they will pinch the item... see if that takes it out
if not, then u are SOL and need to take the head off

IMO you can rotate the motor backwards, I do it all the time and I dont see how it would harm anything. Maybe a vacuum sealed up to the spark plug hole might do it??
My god, I thought that sort of thing only happened to me! (to make you feel better, I once pop riveted the gas tank to the floor, but that's a different story)
My first recommendation would be that grabber tool that was talked about a couple posts up.
The only other thought would be; Pull off the exhaust manifold, loosen ALL the intake valves, rotate the engine until it stops and then rotate it back just a little, then use an air compresser to blow into the intake manifold while holding both the intake and exhaust valves to that cylinder open. Doing this, ALL the air has to go through that cylinder and it MAY blow out the cap through the exhaust.
You could also see if you could get it to blow up out through the spark plug opening. You could do this by making sure that the intake valves are closed and blow in air through the exhaust valve.
Or, get one of the compression tester fittings that fit in the spark plug opening and blow it out past the exhaust valve.
(if this works, you owe me a head gasket)
Do not try to start the engine and do not use the starter to turn it over.
Good Luck!!!!!!!
Wes.

I used a home vac, no dice... here is the plan... the head comes off tomorrow. I will try and get my hands on a new HG and IM gasket this week, then next week I will come back to monterey(Im here now, school is in San Jose, and yes I have a ride). I will bring the gaskets, and my itr valve springs, and just do it all at once.
Thanks for the help yall.
Ryan
PS, dont let this happen to you, be carefull!!! YA YAY YA, Im a fukin idiot

Thanks Wes, we posted at the same time
Ya, I just dont have access to any tools like the air compressor, exc... Im just pullin the head, I wanted to check out my combustion chamber anyways for jdm owner denotation
Thanks
EDIT: great time to install my itr v springs!!

Ryan where exactly did you drop it? Can you see it in the combustion camber? If you know what cylinder it's in maybe you could fill the cylinder with fluid, gas, atf, oil, then take a turkey baster and suck out the fluid and hopefully the cap. Like the old ATF fluid in the combustion camber trick. It wil be smoky when you start it up but i won't do any damage.

I do understand Noah, the thing is that it must be trapped in a corner (lol, there is no corners in a round room, but you get the idea). I have been using a wire hanger to probe for it with no luck, it hasent even coming into view, but I know its there. I rotate the eng, and I cant turn it anymore when the piston reaches tdc. I know its in there, because I was rotating the engine all the way around just before I dropped it in there to make sure the t-belt was on right, and while I adjusted the valves. Its hung up somewhere. Oh well, now its way easier to install my valve springs.

So did it go down a spark plug hole then? There must be a way to get it out without pulling the head. Do you know what cylinder it's in?
Maybe you should fill the cylinders with oil and try and turn the engine over by hand? Maybe it will lube it out of what ever hole it's hiding in?
