Default F23 dohc vtec help

I recently read pirates G23 write up and was moved. Crazy torque @ 2200rpm's? I am wondering what is the best way to use an f23's stroke with an h22 head. I have a couple of every h and f series motors, the only hang up is the h22 is a 1997. Will this work and if it does, is it going to work good?

You can just swap out the crank into a '98+ H22 block with 55mm crank mains. But then you need a shorter compression height piston (1.180") to keep the pistons from hitting the head. But that means you need forged pistons and that means that you need to sleeve. Otherwise you can get forged pistons for the F23 bottom end and follow Prelittlelude's thread to put the H22 head on the F block here:

That would work except I have a 1997 H22, smaller main. Could I over bore my f22, slide in an f23 crank and put some h23 pistons in for the shorter piston height or is this way too ghetto?

It is tricky to overbore the mains on Honda blocks since half is aluminum and the other is iron. One side tends to get bored out more since it is softer. It can be done but definately make sure that you have REPUTABLE shop do it.

Does an f23 crank fit into an f22?

You can take the F23 crank and grind the mains down to 50mm at any reputable shop. Then it will fit in F22 and '97 H22's if it is any consolation. *shrug*

If you are thinking of Sam1am26, then he might beat you to it. But he intends to go turbo eventually. So he is keeping the stock F23 bottom end. That will give him something like 8.6:1 compression that is a very turbo friendly CR. Someone needs to try the high CR F23/H22 hybrid.

I'm going to be doing this too.

H22A block
F23A crank/rods
H22A head
SMSP header
IB spec IM

Type-S pistons (12.3:1 compression in this setup?)
Crower valvetrain & cams (63423)

My only concern is like Pirate mentioned, the compression height. Of course, the motor is going to be clayed, and we may run a slightly thicker headgasket to compensate.
