Default JDM KMH to MPH changeover converter

i just ran across this site by accident. appearently these people make a converter that plugs into the VSS line and some how tricks somthing into making ur JDM gauge cluster read those KMH numbers as MPH numbers. i was reading SPORT COMPACT CAR (the one with BRIAN SPILNER aka PAUL WALKER's) and i saw this skyline that read in MPH even those ther number were in KMH. not sure if it is easy to follow what im saying to ill break it down a little bit easier. Ok say u have a jdm clutser and ur driving down the road at 80 KMH, ur not going 80 mph. but with this converter if ur cluster said 80 kmh you would be really going 80 mph. understand? well here is the site http://www.kilburne.com/2410/frames.php just curious if maybe someone has done this before and i missed it when searching or if someone has used them and kept it a secret from the rest of the HT world. well this just locked my into buying a jdm cluster. that is all.

I had a covertor in my last JDM Teg Si, what it basically does is reduse the VSS signal voltage to 62%. 100kmph = 62mph. So 100% VSS signal entering the cluster shows the correct KMPH reading, by reducing it to 62% it will then show MPH. I have one for lying in my garage. Its a simple 4 wire set up. 1 wire for 12v , one for ground, one to intercept the VSS-input and one for VSS output. I had it connected to the back of my cluster but it can basicaly be fitted anywhere bewteen the ECU and cluster.

Interestion
Anyone know what would happen if you hook up a rev/speed meter (RSM) that reads in MPH to a car equipt with a cluster that reads in kilometers?

I guess it's a good thing we calculate with Arabic numberals and not the Latin alphabet, eh?

rather than multiplying by (6), which some people find hard for some reason, if you need to know do this.....

lets say your traveling at 130 KPH....easiest / fastest way to get you MPH is to cut it in half and add 10%.

1/2 of 130 = 65

+ 10% of 130 = 13

65 + 13 = 78 MPH

you can do that in about 5 seconds in your head if your any good with math....now its not EXACT, but god damnit its close enough....

as much as i dont understand why someone would subscribe to a 5 year old archived thread, i never knew about this product. however i would rather just stick to my intuition, ive learned to read km/h as if it were a second language by now.

Devices like this that we're able to calibrate ourselves would have some use.

I think that a lot of us have track cars with all kinds of conversions and transmissions/final drives, and we'd probably appreciate knowing what our real speed is just by glancing instead of having to think about it at high speeds.

It usually doesn't really matter what your speedometer says in those situations, but you'd still rather know. :-)
