guys that went or are going to wyotech....
do you guys get your welding certificates if you take the chassis fab class? i was thinking of going to the one down in sac and doing there chassis fab and the high performance engines. But i wanna leave there with my welding cert. I dont think everybody can find a job in chassis fab so i wanna be ready to do regular welding jobs.
thanks

from what i know..yes you do only at the sac campus that offers teh welding and chassis fabrication course though.
for anothery wyotecher?
for anothery wyotecher?
Hey guys, i'm currently a techer in blairsville pa and have taken the chassis fab class and am in street rod now. They don't really offer any welding certs "per se" but you can get ICAR certified, but thats only for MIG. Nothing for TIG though, and honestly i think icar is a joke, its really only for the body guys who need something to add to their resume. If i go for a job and they ask about welding certs, i'll ask them to give me a few pieces of metal and a TIG, thats my cert....

they are very serious about the dress code. uniforms and clean shaven always...but its what a lot of employers want (dealerships in particular) and attendence is huge as well
dominate9: i guess i don't have the "rights" to respond to a pm yet, but here my response i had written:
haha i'm not a techer, we call ouselves tech'ers...wyotech, techer, you get my drift... but i will tell you about the experience i have... its funny too cause i'm not really into imports much, big v8's for me, but i would like to diversify my knowledge base here, and a friend recommended this site....why don't ya make a post in that thread so other people can see as well....I think i will be an assett though, don't think because i like pushrods i am just some redneck, i have a BS in electronics engineering as well...so lets get it on

We have a little in common. I too have a BS in EE. I supposed to be starting Wyotech in July. What did you plan on doing after Wyotech?

You are very crazy... ask people that have left the school and have stepped into the real world. Out of 7 people I still keep in contact with 2 have field related jobs, and they don't even pay **** anyways. I broke down and just opened a garage last week because I can't get a good paying job for ****.

If you guys really want to know how it is there iv been grad. from there sinse dec. and to be honest with you i think it was one for the best automotive schools around. Dont get me wrong tho alot of there rules and the way they do things is a joke and they should change it. Out of the guys i still talk to once in a while they all work in the feild that they wanted iv worked at a chassis place and a high performance shop. And if you really want to work at places like that be ready to make small amounts of money. But like i said it was a great school and i would tell anyone to go there if they really want to learn more.
I'm at Wyotech in Blairsville right now. I think that experiences at Wyotech depend on what you want to do for a living. If you young, like fresh out of high school or close to it, and you have no other form of education, most like you will like Wyotech and it wil be worth the money. If you already have some from of post high school education, Wyotech won't be inpressive. I think that the Blairsville campus' downfall is because they hired so many Valtech instructors and students. I seriously doubt that Valtech was a top notch school so obviously, that means that the teacher weren't top notch and the students can came out weren't top notch either. And these are the people instructing you in class. I'm not saying that there are exceptions to the rule, but the only person that has impressed me so far is the automotive program coordinaton, Ed (or Roy) Ramsden. He knows his **** and can teach it too. I wonder how the Wyoming instructors are. They can't be as bad as these here in West Penn.
:::Finally, a place for me to ask this question:::
I always here people talking up wyotech, so i searched and found its web page and from what I saw, wasn't impressed. According to the web site, It looked like a run-of-the-mil tech college, fill me in here!

I NEVER TOURED IN WYOTECH, SEEMS LIKE A GOOD SCHOOL ACCORDING TO COMERCIALS. i wen to UTI in chicago. i liked it, my feelings are that you can get a good education in just about any school. the thing is on job training is a lot different but you def. need both. i work at a vw dealer and i can tell you from experiance that school is a must, unless you are mentoured by someone like me for at least 6 months, and that really isnt good enough.
just a few weeks ago i went to someone shop and i picked upa few cool trickds from an old head. its amazing how the knoledge come to you after you think you know a lot, and get schooled by someone else. there is always someone better out there.
the other thing i can add is that the after programs that used to be offered by uti only, are a must. the training you get from there and job security is wonderful. i hate vw but i make a lot of money and i can within a hour from my house and work at 7 differnt dealers. now i believe they offer these classes to other graduates.
uti opened a new campuss outside of philly about 1 year ago. its huge. but they dont pay alot. hope i shed a new light

Yeah dude..that post up above by "They Call Me Bizzare" was me but as you can see..i was banned! sucks..
Yeah well the Sac campus does have a strict for ***** dress code..at Fremont we can get away with crooked shirts, not wearing belts, not being shaven etc. but in sac. its a no go for anything..gotta wear a belt, have to be cleanly shaven at all times (if not the teacher hands you a razor or they jsut send you home for the day)pants have to be pulled up etc. I wish they had the welding/Chassis design and high performance engines here in fremont..that would be nice.

yeah the one on fremont everyone gets away. but i like to tuck my shirt in and stuff cuase hell if your out on a job people judge you by the way you look. you only make one first impression. thats why people with long hair will likely to get it taken off.

I went to school for general automotive purposes, I actually went to lincoln tech, I had a choice though, between lti, wyotech and uti.
A lot of teachers at lincoln tech came from either wyotech or uti, and they said there basically for the rich kids. The horsepower classes are jokes, you put an intake manifold on a car an dnyo it, what does that teach you ? The nascar program was just to lure kids in also.
I know its not about welding, but everything I heard about wyotech and uti were bad things.
