'88 Civic hatch...speaker/head unit swap w/newer honda OEM parts?
Hi, I picked up an '88 Civic hatch base model 4 speed, and both front speakers are shot. In the past w/my Subarus and my grandparent's Camry, I have been able to buy a factory head unit and/or speakers from a newer model, that plugs right up w/zero wiring.
(ie, any '95+ Subaru is a plug and play deal w/a WRX 6 disc head unit, and a '97 Tacoma head unit plugged right into my grandparent's '91 Camry)
Can anybody tell me what years and model of Honda's I can swap headunits and/or front speakers with and have it all be plug and play?
Thanks!
Mark

</TD></TR></TABLE>From 86 to 97 snd some 98 are all plug and play, after that the plugs change, and before the they were differant also, you can still use some 98 and up HUs but you would have to get adpt. harnesses.

That's exactly what I needed to know, thanks! So I'm safe with ANY '97 model year honda head unit? Or do I need to limit myself to Civic, Accord, etc...how general are you talking...would a '97 Acura head unit even work (I'm thinking probably not, but I want an idea of how much latitude I have in selecting this.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Thanks again.</TD></TR></TABLE> There is very little differance, they will all fit each other, some have a pocket attatched, and are installed as one unit, but the pocket can be removed, some have a rubbe gasket around the faceplate for a tight fit , [older ones] you can use weather strip if you need it.
