What happened to my clutch!?
Hey guys, I really need your help. For the past few days I've been letting my friend practice driving stick, and then today I got in the car and noticed something was wrong. This is a 4th gen btw. Anyway, now my clutch isn't giving hardly any pressure unti it engages (it feels like it engages closer to the floor, could be wrong about that though) and I'm having an EXTREMELY hard time getting into 1st gear (and seems like most other gears as well). I figured it had to either be the master/slave cylinder going out or that the clutch may have just gotten out of alignment somehow. Please tell me if you know what may be wrong with the car, and how I can fix it. I really need help fast. Thanks in advance!
First thing I would do if I were you is change the clutch master cylinder. Get a rebuilt one from Autozone or something and see it that fixes it. If not, it could be several other things...

Naaaah, that's not the first thing I would do. I would first check your clutch fluid level. Then, I would check to see if the slave cylinder and master cylinder is leaking.
You never want to start changing parts before you veryify every thing within the "system" is working.
How many miles are on your car/clutch??

Yeah, true. I just assumed he had already checked the basics...

fluid's fine.... i have 186k on the car, but it's been through some rough driving lately which i think is the reason cause it went from normal to this in a day or 2

Hmmm...bad pressure plate, old possibly worn rubber part of clutch line, clutch damper (that unseen thing under you intake), slave cylinder, low oil, clutch disc alignment, etc.
I'm doing my first clutch/flywheel install myself right now, so all this stuff is pretty fresh in my mind...

I am willing to bet that it is the original clutch. I had 157k miles on mine. It wouldn't slip either. Every once in a while I would get locked out of gear.
I would have the clutch changed. I bet that's the problem.

**** guys, heh, checked the brake fluid instead of the clutch.....heh, feel stupid...but now there's another problem:
I topped off the clutch w/ brake fluid and pumped it a bunch, now it's shifting fine, except into reverse. I would think it was a bent shift fork but doesnt it use the same for 5th and reverse? and 5th works fine. I can't even put it in reverse when the engine is off. Anybody got a clue?

UPDATE: Searched around cause I know I'd heard of this problem before...I did the trick on SuperHonda and now I can sorta use reverse....it doesn't always go in, and when it does, it doesn't feel "in" like it used to...but the car will reverse. The problem, aside from that it doesn't feel like it's in, is that it will pop out if I accelerate in reverse. Now granted, it's useable. But I want it to be the way it was again. Anybody know what might be going on?
I think it may have something to do with your shift fork.
Are there any visible leaks?
Maybe take a look at the shift cables.
Have a friend shift it as you watch the cables.
You can always try bleeding the system like LudeyKrus said as well.

I had the EXACT SAME problem in my 89S but it was ME that had learned stick on it. ended up needing a slave cylinder, then it happened again and i needed a whole new clutch and that was costly. maybe that happened in reverse order but im pretty sure it was both.... maybe not much help but i feel ya. moral of the story is dont let people drive your stick shift car if they dont know how!
