vss problem
ok i have swapped in a gsr cluster into my crx but i cant seem to get the speedo to work. ive wired up the vss in every possible way and nothing works. i have the vss getting power from the cluster. its grounded at pin A24 on the ecu, power at A11 on the cluster A is the 16 pin connector, and signal right to B10 on the ecu, and i have it split to the cluster. ECU is obd1 p72. vss is from a hydro gsr, trans is a ys1 cable trans. now from what the helms tells me, if you are looking at the pins of the vss connector on the harness side, with the clip on top, from left to right it goes signal, power, ground. but ive heard that its supposed to be power, signal, ground. ive tried both and the damn thing still doesnt work. what am i doing wrong?
yea that doesnt help. he says its [power/signal/ground] but my helms says [signal/power/ground]. either way ive tried both ways and it still doesnt work. i definitely have power, definitely have a good ground, and the signal wire is split to b10 on the ecu and b6 on the cluster. im gonna try testing the vss and cluster itself tomorrow and see what i come up with.

yea, post your results. i'm having the same problem; i've tried two vss, i know they're wired correctly (i've also tried every way)...it's frustrating.

ok i think i found the problem. i think my vss is bad. ive got power, ive got ground, but my signal doesnt pulse. its supposed to pulse from 0-10V but mine just stays at about 8.9V. i thnk its time for a new vss.
anyone else have opinions?

ok, well i wired it up completely opposite what my manual said and now im getting voltage from the signal wire. its the only positive result ive gotten so i think ive got the wiring right. but the voltage doesnt pulse, just kinda sits at 10.5-11 V. does this mean that its bad? i tested another vss with this wiring setup and it was pulsing from 0-1 V not enough for the ecu to read. whats going on? someone please help me. i cant seem to wire this thing up right.

wtf are you talking about?
i just did mine in about 20 min useing the same pinouts and link that i sent you.
its not hard man
looking at the side that the wires go into that connector (not the plug end)
The first wire is ground it goes to any ground.
The second wire is power and gets ignition 12v (must shut off when car is off)
The third wire is signal it getts spliced anywhere in the wire going from the cluster to the ecu.
listen to that it will take you 20 min
next time acually use the advice people have gave you instead of just bitching that no one is gona help you.

the link you sent me said it was power signal ground, and you say ground, power, signal, which is also what my helms says. so no your link didnt help at all. and like ive already stated, i wired it that way and it didnt work. ive actually wired it every way possible and it still didnt work.
you say from the wire side, its ground, power, signal. is that from left to right? with the clip on top or bottom? be more detailed.
and ive looked at many civics/delsols and their vss's must be different. cause on civics and delsols, the signla wire is the middle one, not on the end. i know this for a fact cause ive traced the wires from the vss all the way to pin b10 on the ecu (obd1)
and im not bitching that no one will help, im bumping my thread so it gets seen. no one looks through the 5th and sixth pages and even further. they look in recent topics, or the first few pages. no one has replied in this topic since the 27th and if i hadnt been bumping it, you nor anyone else would have replied.

um i think it will only pulsate when the car is in motion,
Are you sure you have the little shaft in there?

i know that. i had the vss off the car and i was spinning it by hand. i aslo did it while the vss was in the car and i spun the wheel by hand and the same result for both situations, no pulsing.

your finger wont spin it fast enough, and the car must be in gear,
just by spinning the wheel wont make its spin.

yes it will, i took the top half of the vss off and watched the "key" spin inside the vss. it doesnt have to be in gear, thats why if you take it out of gear while cruising you can still see your speed.
i spun the passenger side wheel, thats what the helms told me to do. it says raise the car and block off one wheel. then slowly spin the other wheel with your hand and and check for a pulsative voltage. it doesnt matter how fast or slow you spin the wheel (or vss itself) it will still pulse, just not that fast. im solely looking for a pulsing voltage from the vss at this point, i know the ecu and cluster wont read it with the pulsing being so slow. ill show you the page in the helms if you dont believe me. but you will see a pulsing voltage if everything is wired right and the vss is good. no matter how slow you spin it. i think its something like 4 pulses per rotation? i could be wrong on that.

its with the plug on top if you would have took the time to dwonload the pdf file that acually has a pic if the thing that i sent you the link to you would know that.
all honda electronic speed sensors are the same.
looking at where the wires go into the plug and with the tab on top ground, power, signal
end of story stop confuseing everyone
i wired mine up like that and it works. so your saying im not giving you enough info? i walked you through it step by step so if its not working you did it wrong.
i gave you more info than i ever had.
follow those instructions and it will work period.

like i said, i wired it up like that. exactly like that, quadruple checked it and it didnt work. no pulsing from the vss. no voltage whatsoever. now with it wired backwards, signal, power, ground, i got some voltage about 10.5V, but no pulsing.
now i ask again...does this mean that the vss is bad? and can the vss itself be damaged from being wired wrong? ive tried 3 different vss's each wired every concievable way and it still didnt work. i even took a known good vss from my auto teg and it didnt work, i may try to fiddle with that one again though, and see exactly where the wires are run.
but im telling you that the civic and del sols vss have the signal wire in the center. i traced the yel/blu wire all the way from the vss plug to b10 on the ecu. that is most definitely the signal wire.

if its not working you arent hooking it up the way i told you.
simple as that.
i dont know why you keep bumping the post
any other info other than what i am telling you is just going to confuse you further. and is wrong

just out of curiosity, have you checked to make sure the clsuter works right? try swapping the cluster with a good one...and make sure the connection to the cluster for the vss is right...if you get no voltage then something is up...but i had no problem with mine...
