Hello all you motorheads. I just freshened up my 98 Civic coupe with a 1997 JDM ITR engine with the JDM LSD 4.75 tranny.
As a baseline with i/h/e, VAFC, and alum flywheel we put down 169 hp and 120 ft/lbs. (please bear in mind that it is a fully featured motor with p/s and a/c)
I am requesting advice on valvetrain components to work well with the stock bottom end and Hondata engine management. I am pretty set on Toda springs and retainers. I have personal experience tuning with Skunk cam gears and like them because they have more adj. bolts than most. I am up in the air on camshaft options. I have researched these camshafts and many others, but would like suggestions and support from you folks who have more experience with this engine. I am considering:
Skunk spec2
Toda B
Buddy Club 3.
I want to maintain good daily drivability and traffic friendliness but would like to pick up hp and tq across the entire RPM range. I would also like camshafts which would be compatible with a future bottom end build with 11.5 c/r, 84mm bore, sleeving, blueprinting/balancing. Please offer your suggestions with support (preferably from experience with this engine). Thanks!!

i run sk2 st2's with no driveability problems what so ever. granted i'm not running them in a R but i'm happy with them. how ever i think you would see good gains from all 3 your thinking of using. my .02
I have a b18c1 block with USDM Itr pistons in it. ITR Valvetrain, Skunk2 stage 1 cams , IM, and cam gears. running hondata, right at about 11.5:1 compression and I put down 191hp and 137tq. The cams arnt even adjusted yet.
I did a B18C5 a couple months ago. We use a 70mm BBk throttle body, SK II STG 2 cams, cam gears, springs and valves, and a tubular no name exhaust manifold (4-1), running a Hondata s200. The car put down 187 hp and and 135 ft lbs.
We just need to replace this pistons with higher compression ones as stage II cams seem to like 11.5:1 or higher, we got our numbers off stock ITR compression of 10.6:1.
