LS/Vtec or GSR
recently i purchased a b16 head planning to do a LS/Vtec conversion. Right now all i have is the bare head with valves, springs, retainers, no cams, sprockets, IM, and all the vtec stuff. i dont know whether i should continue with this project cuz im missing alot of stuff, or if i should just swap a GSR. Someone told me that this would be cheaper if i could sell my ls motor, but i think the problem would be is if anyone would actually want to buy the motor. So my question is, how much would i be looking at if i do an LS/Vtec compared to a gsr swap, and what do u guyz think is better for me. my budget is about 1500- 1700 as far as for my motor so i dont know if thats about the price range for those 2 options. thanks alot
you can definfitly 100 percent absolutely finish the project with that budget--- and i advise you do it.... ls vtec kicks gsr in the *** with propper tuning and installation -but the GE kit makes it a breeze. lets break it down,
skunk2 cams w/ gears 650 bucks
used skunk mani 200 bucks
golden eagle conversion kit 250
p28 ecu and conversion harness- 175
B&M fpr w/ guage- 80 bucks...
arp head studs search around for like 40 bucks.
lets say 300 bucks for miscelaneous, fuel rail, vtec solenoid, dizzy, uberdata, etc...
thats exactly 1695...
donno if im missing anything... help me out if i did

stick with lsv... up compression tho, g et 1 layer gasket, and do this **** ^ btw, if ur in o-side. i know of a shop in SD called GG auto machine. call tony, he knows his ****, iused to work there, have him get ur head ready for ls-v. he will mill it(if u want), drill new holes for dowels, plug vtec oil holes, as well as open up oil drainbacks so u dont leak like a siv. pm me if u eed more info

lsv... ryte off da back u'll have more torque. pistons would also b nice for top end.... low on ens keep it stock compression n slap on a snail. u can go low budget n piece 2gether a set up more or less $1200
n work from der..

so what kind of setup would i need if say i was planning to do turbo later on, such as low compression pistons, etc. anyone here have any first hand experience on ls/vtec turbo? thanks again guyz
my advice if your going boost- dont do any internal work untill you start boosting- buy ur turbo pistons and rods as part of ur turbo setup. you dont wanna be rolling around low compression without boost. ull be slow as **** its not worth it... keep the stock bottom end, dont rev higher then stock redline for the ls (just cause the b16head revs that high, doesnt mean your block can) and then get ur low compression **** with the turbo setup...
i know i will do lsvturbo later on but for now i can only afford lsv. and btw i wont be killing my car since its a daily driver. also, if i do get lsvtec, how much faster will it be than the gsr
i just finished mine and first drove it yesterday. I did notice a gain in power and i didn't take her all the way up to 6800. Im very satisfied with it. If you get the golden eagle kit, there is no machine work necessary so id recommend it. Its just hard to get setup correctly, their sandwhich adapter needs to be installed with percision accuracy is what i found out.
just curious, but where can you find the golden eagle kit. i am gonna do a project engine ls vtech skunk stage 2 cams u know the whole meal deal..... not gonna be a daily driver engine. i kinda need pics too if i do have to put in a new oil line, anyone know a good site to find how to ls vtec?
go here
http://www.goldeneaglemfg.com/main.html
or if you search, i think theres a thread that golden eagle started and they have discounted rates on the ls/vtec kit.

Hey man the Gsr Is more reliable. just thought i would throw that out. but ya know, whatever. I picked up a Type-R head For 900 with only 10k on it. but thats through friends. so you gott know where to look. But for the money I would build the Gsr. The LS Vtec is not all its cracked up to be. I would go B20 Vtec but that is really not meant for daily driving. But thats just me. but i would like to kinow what you decide to do.

obviously its not "meant " for daily driving, its a hybrid, it wasnt meant to be at all- b20 vtec is the same as an ls vtec- no difference- ur gasket has to be the right size but golden eagle allows you to specify what size bore you need. go to robear racing... not sure exact website (probably robearracing.com) thast where i got mine- great shipping. obviously a gsr long block would be easier, the only thing required of it is bolting it in. but to say more reliable- i disagree- built right it should be as reliable as any other motor... a full gsr swap, if assembled wrong will **** up too. its not a difficult concept. and yes, lsV is all its cracked up to be. do you have one? (sounds to me like ur regurgetating information ang... not bashing you at all- just my2 cizzents)

i knwo im not helping much but i have 3500 to spend and i was gonna get a gsr swap and put it in myslef but now you catz got me thinking about lsv...but i know its not that reliable...either way im eventully going turbo...i jsut feel lsv would be very dificult for me to do and i hear the ls block suxs ***...and the gsr block is ment to take more abuse...thats y it has oil squirters... some one help asap
Yall are forgetting the TRANNY. LS/Vtec equals bomb diggity ****. But it wont move without a b16 or gsr tranny. I did mine with ctr pistons to get more power and am running stock b16 cams. with minimal tuning I run high 13s. Bump for ls vtecs
thanks for all of your help guys. I have decided to go on with the LS/Vtec project. For now im going to leave the stock low compressions since i dont think i will be pushing my engine that hard, and going to go boost later on...way later
Im now looking for the parts and it would be helpful if you guys have any suggestions/good deals on where i could get these and rough estimates on prices and if these are the parts i need or if i need anything else..thanks alot
Golden Eagle LSV Conversion Kit....ebay?
Distributor... my car is a 95..so probably a 95 gsr?
ECU...(p28, gsr?
)
skunk2 IM
Vtec harness
Vtec Valve cover
Cams and sprockets....(probably Skunk 2)
hmm..thats all i could think of for now..anyone have any experience w/ LSV if i can get your setup to get a basic idea of what i need..thanks again everyone

first off, you can hardwire vtec to the ecu
second, its not a "vtec" valve cover (but yes, you do need a valvecover if one isnt on there)
plz do some research, or at least talk to someone who knows what they are talking about
