yes they are wired. but on most cars it is tucked under the bottom of the panel. so you MIGHT have to remove the panel to access it.

Are these the parts your looking for? When you search for parts that don't come on your trim level (CX for example), you must specify a different trim level that had those parts standard (Si baby).
You can buy them here...

I just installed my rear speaker brackets, and I would think if you didn't use them then your sound quality will suffer, but thats up to the individual. As the brackets enclose the speaker againist the speaker grill. Look on ebay thats where i purchased mine, because the dealerships have discontinued them.

The rear speaker brackets were a Factory Option! Not standard

You can order them from a good dealership like San Leandro or Majestic Honda. I sold mine to some guy. You could easily find some at a Honda specialist junkyard. But in truth, more speakers means more distortion. The only benefit to more speakers is a higher SPL. If you're going for sound quality, follow this formula:

A good quality CD player. 2 front midrange speakers amplified, 2 front tweeters, with crossovers to divide the frequencies between them. Mount the tweeters especially so that they point directly into your ear and are close to being equidistant from the driver. One subwoofer in an appropriate box with its own mono amp and crossover. Try the sub in different locations before permanently mounting it so that you can find the best sound. Good quality amps, not amps that claim ridiculous power ratings.

Adding more **** to this formula sacrifices quality of sound, adds eye candy to attract thieves, but allows you to make a lot more noise if you think louder is better.

No that is not what he is talking about. He's talking about the speaker brackets that are located in the molding next to the rear seats in the hatch. There are brackets on each side that pop out. Behind the bracket there are mounts upon which you can attach the correct speaker brackets. Honda used to sell these items, including the speaker grills that fit this area but as stated earlier they are discontinued and VERY hard to find. Junk yards, try Majestic Honda, etc.

Sound quality would most likely be much better (if using rear speakers) if they are in the appropriate factory speaker holders, behind the pop out piece. You can avoid buying the inserts with grills by cutting your own round hole and covering with that black, stretchy speaker material....

The two speaker, sub woofer theory is great, if you want to have a subwoofer. If not I can't imagine that having 4 speakers would hurt the clarity of music. Unless you're listening to frickin classical i don't think that you'd notice much more distortion from two more speakers (especially if they are matching).

anyone try mounting an 8" free air subwoofer in that area or created some sort of enclosure for a small sub in those openings? 8" may be too big for the area, but I could imagine that being an excellent way of creating/hiding a sub enclosure for good sound without having an obvious stealable subwoofer in the hatch compartment. that might be a fun project

Bro your worried about hiding 8" woofers in the rear side where anyone can see them... Besides that i think 6 in speakers were meant to fit in there... Why not make a custom enclosure where the spare used to go or something like that... In the hatch with the cover on, its not viewable, if thats what ur worried about...

If you blast your system though, it going to get stolen eventually...

Good luck though, I wouldnt mind seeing how the woofers would look on there...

The wires should be in the general area of where the rear speakers will go, only straight down on the floor. They are from what I've seen taped to other wires. If you pull the bottom / side edge of that panel up, you should be able to reach down and see or feel a little harness that is not plugged in to anything. These should be the speaker wires. Good luck.

****, with a little trimming you can put an 8-inch speaker in that cavity with zipties and some liberally applied padding. You don't need the bracket if you pad the surrounding area and use strong zipties.
