Grippy tires
I have some Kumho Ecstas in my hatch that I will need to replace in 3 months. Question is, does anyone recommend tires that will have the same great traction but with less noise? These tires are great but they are loud on the highway!
thanks
thanks

ditto....but I have 195/55/15's. I wanted a little bit more sidewall to help with the shitty freewway I commute on. Best tires I've ever owned.

had the 712's on my 93 hatch and 89 toyota truck both 195/50/15, good for the money, good wet as stated above. currenty have 205/50/15 azenis on the car, seem to be pretty sticky but as stated wear faster, than es 100's or 712's
The truck has 205/50/15 es 100's they are comparable to the 712 in my opinion just a little softer. for the price(tirerack) in 195/50/15 you cant beat the es 100's
So as you can see i pretty much agree with what everyone else says

Seems like all tires that make noise are the good ones the Falken beta 451 are good but if you want something that hooks in wet or dry weather try the Yokohama A032 we carry those at Discount Tire. But also the post that are above are good tires would definitely recommend
ES100s are overrated, but this is coming from my experience with them while hotlapping.
If treadlife is no object, then try Bridgestone Potenza S-03. The Toyo T1-S (which I feel are better than the ES100s) are just as good in the wet as S-03 and should last a tad longer in similar conditions. Another alternative is the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.
But if all you do is daily drive with little to no track/Solo time, the ES100s should suffice.
The above is based on 195/50-15 tires.

definately agree, Kuhmo and the ES100's are both budget tyres in the uk, infact my mates over here nickname the 712's 'ditchfinders
To be fair we get a lot more wet/cold weather over here, so tyres are Sooo much more important. But they are always the only thing holding you on the road, so always the most important bit on the car, so always spend as much as you can
I am running T1-S at the moment, good, but not a patch on the F1's and S0-3's, but even they cost me $450 and i get through 2 sets a year
But they are 100% worth it, even more so when you have decent twisty roads and wet roundabouts to enjoy
But already the T1-S have saved me $$$ due to stopping quicker, gripping better or not aquaplaining when needed, and they give you more confidence and a higher saftey margin, and there isnt a $$ for that

another yoko es100 user here. decent tires i'd say. def. loose some of their grip after being heat cycled a bunch of times but damn they are cheap and work well in the rain too...
