Default 92 cx hatch motors 70hp stock do you think this is smart

i have a 92 cx hatch with stock d15b8, it makes like 70 hp stock. my car has full 2.5 inch exhaust, nuspeed header, short ram intake, other than that its bone stock.
the motor runs great for what it is so until i do my engine swap next summer i was gonna do a 16 valve swap or mini me the head sense its only 8 valve non vtec.
i also have a new ported out jackson racing supercharger for d series i was gonna put on in the process just to have some fun. is there any good reason why i shouldnt do this? and do you think it will make a nice noticable difference /horsepower gain??

thanks

Get a 16V head and a D16Z6 transmission, then put that JRSC on. **** a swap.

Yeah, I would actually recommend a Y7 head, no need to rewire anything for VTEC or anything & is the best of all the non-VTEC sohc heads. Just get yourself a P06 computer and roll. Probably get 20 hp minimum just from that and they are cheap and easy to find.

Do what Bauley said. Should be nice.

For now? I doubt you will ever reach a D's full potential and if you ever do, post us some of those 9 second time slips!

You don't ever need a swap, if you know what your doing.

I would dump that motor. Either another (better) D or a B or H.

I have heard that the early 92 d15b8's have the dreaded two valve pistons from the older 8 valve CRX's. These are not compatible w/ 4 valve heads (duh). I wouldn't even risk it, because if you remove the head & find those things, your fucked (unless you wanna replace the pistons too )...

Just be patient & run that thing into the ground till you get your swap.

Definetly invest in the Si or EX transmission. Everything hooked up fine on mine but Id get a full bottom end and tranny before too long.....it runs decently though

So basically any other motor than that D or a K series which is like 10000000$? That helps.

If it was me I'd sell the jackson racing supercharger on ebay and take the money from that and build a turbo kit. You'll get so much more from the turbo kit. And change the head and get a z6 tranny like Bauley Civic said.

my ruling..........................swap

my honest opinion is that u can be competitive with a D series. just like everyone else is saying, as long as u kno what u are doin and have the pocketbook to support it...........good luck

Everyone has pretty good suggestions on what to do but in the end its all what you want out of the car and how thick your wallet is.

Try lightening up the car (CF Hood, lighter wheels, take out back seats, lose weight)

Also, why are you running 2.5" exhaust on an engine that makes 70HP? 2.5-3.0" piping should be left to higher horsepower cars.

I highly suggest getting a 2" mandrel bend exhaust system.

if that motor is in good shape, id saystay with it till u blow it or something, especially if ur onna do ur first forced induction project.
turbo d's can get 200whp on stock internals...try doing that on an all motor b series and figure out the cost. just the b swap alone would probly cost more than a complete turbo setup

I'm thinking the best "bang for the buck" ideas will be a JDM D15B longblock and an EX/Si tranny. I'd say just build a minime out of it, but being that it's a 92, we don't know whether it came with 4 valve reliefs per piston or just 2.

man i have a 92 cx and yeah that stock cx motor blows big ones. i put in a z6 head (yes my motor had the correct pistons) and it still was slow. i then put in a y8 trans and woo hoo!!!!! then i got a little crazy and put a full exhaust sytem on front to back and hit it with a 55 shot and after one bottle i broke a rod. a jrsc would do great though. plus to since you have a 92 hatch you are already wired for vtec from the ecu to the strut tower. just put in a si/ex harness or add the 2 wires that are needed to make the vtec work. you will be very impressed. if you want another secreat PM me and i'll tell you how to make that beast scream being all motor with a 1.5 head
