air conditioner conversion from r12?
Anyone know of a post on how to convert to newer Freon 1990 accord.
Anyone ever replace air conditioner pulley? I think now may be a good time for a conversion. Know of any posts?

You'll need to make sure the system is completely dis-charged of all R12 before converting. Just buy a convertion kit at advance auto or Napa. It will come with everything you need.

This is a great site for ac questions. I have converted a few cars over the years. R12 has better heat transfer ability so converting to R134 your system wont run as cold as it did. Be careful what oil you use with the R134. Some of oils that are included in the kits will gum up a R12 conversion. Can you evacuate or pull a vacuum on the sysytem. Its not mandatory but you will get better results especially if you want really cold air.

I will have the compressor off the car and can drawn most but not all of the oil. It seems some of the oil is contained in other parts of the system.
I had heard that the R-12 oil was not compatible?
Ever replace the pulley bearing on an accord?

Are you talking about the a/c clutch on your car that your replacing due to it being bad? Make sure that there is no damage to the inside of the compresor where the shaft for the clutch sits. If there is, its a really good idea to replace the whole a/c ompressore as a unit.
Most of the oil stays in the compressor, you would need to dismantling the whole system to flush out all the old oil. That why its important to use the right oil with the new freon. I think ester oil is the type that is compatable with both, but dont remember. Replacing the bearing on the pulley??? Why? These usualy don't fail unless the belt is way overtightened. The freon alone will cost you about $20. You also will need guages. The sight glass is useless with R134.
