Cf truck?
are cf trunks worth it? i've heard taht some intall in the stock place, and then when u open it, becasue its a lot lighter than the stock one, the truck will shoot up and smack u in the face? also would u have to adjust the spring some how?
well it really depends on your budget...real cf good name brand trunks can get up to 3500-4000 usd...amuse, j's racing etc..to me if u got the money then go for it...especially if u got the money to spend on that why settle for knock brands also
dude why whould you even recomend a brand like that, their not worth, other us brands have carbon fiber trunks for like 300 400 bucks, not 4000 youv got to be the dumbest mother ****** on planet earth if youd pay 4000 dollars for a damn trunk lid

as to the original poster - given your line of questioning, this isn't for you unless you want bling only, or unless you have done everything else to the car and are trying to get every ounce of weight out of the car itself.

I hope you really don't think people who buy a 400 dollar cf trunk are dumb. They're actually smarter then you. If you don't have a "400 dollar CF trunk" then how do u know they leak water?. lets see you make a better cf trunk. yep, you probably can't. i have a cf trunk, and it does NOT leak in water, it fits nicely. it is not c-west, or amuse, or some expensive brand over 1k bux. i took off the trunk springs. sold my stock trunk, so the total cost of a CF trunk wasn't too bad. the main reason why i got the trunk was because my stock trunk had some cosmetic damage on it. the cf trunk is a lot lighter compared to a stock trunk.
also, for 800 bux, a mugen fabricated hardtop with a little leak isn't so bad of a problem to fix. i'd definitely consider buying one for 800 bux, then fix the leak myself.
I just noticed this thread is titled Cf truck. i don't have a cf truck

well, none that i know of that isn't close to a G. at least w/ the cheaper cf trunks you stilll get a lightweight fiberglass part which weighs much less then the solid steel oem part. you really have to pick up the fiberglass /cf trunk and the oem trunk to feel the difference. there is a big difference. mitsubishi had to overcome a lot to have their MR w/ an alluminum roof, and it lost a mere 4KG of weight. switching to a fiberglass/cf trunk bring you equal or more of a weight reduction of an evo MR on an s2000.

well i wouldn't mind paying a g for a carbon fiber hood that actually weighs less then the oem...
by the way.. the oem hood for the s2000 is very light as it is.. and i know some carbon fiber hoods actually end up weighing more then the oem hood..

hoods? i thought we were talking about trunks? well, the oem hood is made of alluminum, so it is lighter then most hoods, but a cf/fg hood would still weigh a little less. the trunk on an s2 is not alluminum, its probably steel, and it weighs a lot more then fiberglass w/ cf.
Actually Charge Speed is right at about a grand. ASM is about $1600. So take your pick of the two under $2000. You cant go wrong with either one. Both are rare and nobody in the US has them right now. I just sold my CF trunk. I am going back to OEM + BYS spoiler..

the trunks are cool if your gonna go for the show look since all I do is go to shows with my s2k i have one. and i dont have one of the 4000 dollar ones, mostly because if you get one of those you cant put your 3rd brake light in, so i opted to install a 400 dollar gtp carbon trunk it doesn't leak weighs a lot less than stock and turns heads. as for your original concern of the trunk coming up and knocking you out, well dude it weighs less, and this has absoluteley nothing to do with the fact that it cost 40 or 4000000 dollars. as a matter of fact if you get the more expensive ones which some people here swear are a million times lighter than the knock offs, you'll just get knocked out harder cause it'll come up faster. just hold the freakin' trunk down when you open it. its common sense. oh and to the guy with the friend with the 800 dollar mugen hardtop knock off tell me where he got it phone number or something, or if your friend is fed up with it i'll buy it. i have a body shop sponsor i'm sure could fix all the problems with that top. thanks all.
if you take out the trunk springs it will no longer shoot up when you hit the trunk release button. when you take the trunk springs off, the trunk will want to come down instead of shooting up. this way you don't have to goto the back of your car to hold the trunk down to get it open.
i have a long list of better things to do with my money then to buy a cf trunk that costs over a grand.

hahaha yeah dude we all have better things to do with that money i'm sure i have my trunk set up on a shock so it goes up nice and smooth and yeah i took the springs off too, i just dont see why you would want to spend so much money on carbon fiber when the other brands are just as good.
