Knocking noise, then the car dies after a week, not quite sure........
OK, so one day last week, i've got my stereo up, and i notice that, when i accelerate, i'm not getting all my juice. I turn down the radio, and i also notice a knocking noise that starts around 3000 RPM, and continues upward. I open the hood, and play with the throttle a bit to see where the noise is coming from. It sounds like it's coming from underneath the valve cover. So today i'm planning to take off the valve cover, but it dies before i get home. Get it towed to my garage, and take off the valve cover. Nothing looks wrong. Put on a new gasket, and really quick, try and start the thing. There's a NASTY noise, so i quickly shut it off. My buddy who's more proficient in cars than i am, says it could be a spun bearing, and i think that maybe even a rod. I loved in the archived posts about noises coming from the valve cover, and none of the solutions seem to fit. Tomorrow i'm pulling off the oil pan and taking a look up to see what the crank and rods look like. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
What does your timing belt look like? I had problems with my LS when the timing belt was too loose (bad install by a horrible garage.) Sounds like a similar problem.

if you find out its the bottom end, you might have bent or burnt up a vavle.
i have been there and done that, that might sound like what your problem is. but i would check underneath ur oil pan. then take off the head and see what ya did
