Tall Pines Rally Piccies
Tall Pines was the best event evar, we almost won our class until I went off the road for a minute and a half. We ended up 3rd in class, 17th overall. On stage times alone minus my off, we would have won our class, and been top 10 overall. Oh well, thats rally
We bent the rad support and rad, on a HARD nose first landing off a jump, but the car kept going, and didnt puke any coolant..
This finishes up my rally season, next year, I plan to do 10 events in America, and Canada. I need to find alot more money..
Here is some piccies.. From Andrew Harvey, Formula Photo, and Zap Media.

Matt, great to see you up at Tall Pines. I saw your car in the morning before the stages run, I was contemplating saying "hi see you post on h-t" but you looked a bit busy
I have a short clip of you taking the first run through the spectator area at Iron Bridge, but unfortunately no movies after that. The rain really started to come down on the 2nd and 3rd passes and we had to retreat to the trees to keep dry
If I can ask a quick question, how did you get started? I see that 4 Star Motorsports puts on rally-xs in Bancroft and I'll go to those next year hopefully, but just curious.
Anyhoo, good to see more people at Tall Pines

StimpyBoy, Never hesitate to talk to us, were friendly!
Even If Im busy, im usually pretty talkative..
Could you e-mail me that clip? Id love to see it, rallymatt@gmail.com.
Um, I got started watching WRC vids, then I spent about 9 months building the car, and did the Cadillac forest rally, here in michigan.. Since then, I have done SnoDrift, LSPR, and Tall Pines.

It's pretty impressive that Matt managed to avoid the common mistakes that people make when they go rallying. I wish that Gr2 was the only class in the US so we'd have a viable series...

Matt,
Nice pics!
Are there any structural reinforcements on your civic (other than the roll cage)?
Basically, i'm wondering if/how your chassis was able to handle the abuse all season. Jumps, offs, etc...
Did your chassis ever bend? How often did you have to repair/replace suspension components (arms, shocks, etc..)
Thanks in advance.

Goullish - I think Kurt meant choosing a nancy boy AWD car.....
The car has plates on top of the shock mounts, and a comprehensive cage (about 30 connecting points) That hits all the good stuff..
No problems with the chassis, other than bending the rad support, and UCA's every event.

WOW great pics! I have been contemplating scrapping my full on DSP Solo plans for next year and building this $500 hatch in the yard for rally...you are the inspiration I needed, hope to see you out next season!

Hell, yeah.
After being involved at the periphery for many years, I did 40+ rallies as a co-driver in this...
...including 15+ class wins, an overall event win, and a Divisional class championship. The mistake I saw over and over was that people constantly bought into the lie that they need three diffs, two gearboxes, a turbo, and 13 black boxes to go rallying.
Even guys (and gals) who were really fast in 2wd machinery often fall for the "I just need a Mitsubarazdoyota Evo XXI and I can win" trap. Most of them eventually realized how expensive they are and crapped out.
If the entire North American championship were built around Group 2 cars - 2 liter, FWD, about 2200 pounds - it would be a hell of a lot healthier than it is. The problem, as is often the case, is that people with interests in the "Supercars" wield a lot of power on the decision-making process. (See Subaru paying for all of the TV time for the SCCA series for the last few years.)
Sadly, this situation is not likely to change under Rally America administration, I don't expect...

Kurt,
The new Rally-America rules for liscensing require you to start in a Gp2 or P car..
I bet you would also like the GpF movement..

It was Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack that said, "It looks good on you, though" - or words to that effect.
Just for the sake of conversation, ask yourself, "why the Talon?? I'm going to take a shot at mind reading and guess that you think you REALLY need AWD and a turbo to be competitive but don't have enough scratch for a Subie or Mitsu. How close am I?

Under the 2005 Rally-America rules, you wont be allowed to start with an AWD turbo car. You must have a Gp2 or P car at first, and then progress to a club liscense.
