5th gen 1999 lude with only 1OS sensor stock. WTF?!?!
I was just at a honda service center to change the timming belt on my newly bought lude (you never know, so better safe than sorry).
Anyway I was just going over the underside of the car as it was lifted up, and was shocked (in a positive way) that there was no so called OS2 sensor, the one that is supposed to be after the cat.
From all I have read here, I was under the impresion that it was a must since 1996- or so. There was a 1996 4th gen lude right next to my car, and that one had the 2 OS sensors, but mine, being a 5th gen 1999 lude (AT) had only one. I rushed to the mechanic and we checked the manual, and it was no mod. it was like that from stock. He wasn't sure how come, but said somthing about the models released to Europe erlier and that te regs were not as strict initialy, so there were more than 1 models of the H22a mods. I wonder which ECU I have then, ODBII?, if yes than those it have a modified programing which does't ask for info on the post cat. air mixture?
Anyway I just posted this to get any further info you might have in respect to this.
I am handling this as good news, it means that I can take off the cat and there will be no 'check engine' lights coming on
After the discovery, I made a few calls and I can (and probably) have a custom header and complet exhust system built and installed for about $600 (labout is very cheap here in Hungary). This will mean a header and a test pipe, one mid muffler and one at the end. The test pipe will be installed so it will be replaceble with the cat, when I have to go for car examination (which we have to do every 2 years here).
To get the best out of it, I will probably have to do something to the intake. I dont realy like short arm intake due to the hot air thing. But am not sure about how to have the cold air variation installed. Those it mean I have to get an arm that would go all athe way to were the stock filter is now and make it curve down into the right front body and install a filter there. How can the filter be cleaned if its inside??
I would apreciate if someone posted me some pics. Also what about those hose that go into the stock air intake like the 'carter gas recycle air' if I have the name correctly.
I would love to have the ECU chip modified after these mods are installed, that is dyno tuned, but I am not sure if there is anywere here that they an actually program the chip, yes there are dynos, but not sure about programers for honda. I could order the hondata or uberdata from the US, but how the ehck do I modify it without dynoing at the same time. I remeber that the uberdata can be somehow tuned on the road as well??
I apreciate every input.

I dont bite, feel free to post.
I dont belive that this hasn't come up any where else.
What ECU do I then have in this lude??

I have a 97 lude in TURKEY and mine has only 1 o2 sensor before the CAT too. I guess all European ones are the same. My other Honda (99 Shuttle (ody for US)) is the same and runs fine with removed CAT.
Regarding the OBD 1 or 2 question, well I have no idea!

thx.
you are probably right some EU models have only 1 sensor.
The other question bothers me more. I dont think it could have the OBDI cause all that would be a downgrade to the 99-model, I guess that that one sensor is not the only difference between the OBDI and OBDII. And I dont think that Honda would put an out-date ECU in this car just cause the enviromental regulations were lighter in some countries. It would probably be an OBDII ver.2 or something with no dependancy on the after cat sensoring. Or maybe its a stock OBDII with a different programing that ignors the OS2 sensor input.
I would appreciat any info on this, is there an easy way I could find out what ECU I have? Its only important for me, incase I find a place here that the F/A ratio can be modified after the I/H/E boltons are installed, to maximise performance.

the sensor may be ontop of the cat so you cant see it from the bottom. Pretty sure the whole OBD junk only pertains to the USA as our emissions laws require us to have a functioning catalytic converter.
No, I checked all over the cat and there is none. The rules used to be stricter over in the US, but now Europe is harder on emissions. I guess I just got lucky (if you can call it that).
ANy idea on how I can check what ECU I have in there? Or maybe I have all this wrong and OBDII and OBDI are just the managment parts/program of the ECU and not the entire ECU. Being On-Board-Diagnostics if I am not mistaken.

No, there should be only one oxygen sensor in Euro version. I have just checked it. There is nothing wrong with you ECU or so.
