Advantages and Disadvantages of EF and EG
what are the advantages and disadvantages that the EF hatchback has over the EG hatchbacks? This should be a interesting topic..
I would guess that the EF would be lighter (depending on the model), but I could be wrong. By all means, correct me if I'm wrong please.
The downside of an EF, it's older. Therefore more wear on parts and harder to find one in good condition.

hey i'll reply even though i don't know much about the EG's.
what i've always figured is that EG's are better as far as parts fitting to them, but thanks to the fact that Honda discontinued the CRX when it did, EF's also have ALMOST as many parts available. i'm an EF fan, b/c that's what i have, but EG's are newer so they can't be bad.

I have always heard that the lightest Civic chassis ever is the EG 'cx' model.
But I've also heard that the EF chassis is a better with handling and all-round structurally than EG chassis.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

this is what I know from what I seen and heard of
the EF hatch compared to the EG has a short wheel base which is a disadvantage in drag and well almosr any department of racing
I know but still I wouldn't want it any other way
and correct about this another sad part about EF's but Bolt on kit

mabye im wrong but i think EF civic 4dr dx was the lightest...or mabye it was a EF std hatch

i think the STD hatch is lighter..i hear the d16 vtec motors in a EF is supposed to run high mid15s, but is slower in a EG. one thing i am for sure about the EG is that it is easier to do swaps into a EG because you dont need mounts..

is it true that the d16 (92-95 si/ex motors) run mid 15s stock in the EF hatch? how fast are they supposed to be in the EG? which car handles better?

yeah, a 4 door is not the lightest. The 88 crx hf is supposed to be the lightest chassis. I beleive at a cool 1800 pounds. but it seems that some eg models are around the same weight as some ef's... my 2 cents

advantages-my swapped ed6 weighs less than most egs at 2160. The ef has the potential for obd 1 and a hydro tranny. So you can have all the eg goodies in your ef.
disadvantages-old car smell. I can deal with everything else.

Yes i have heard this aswell and seems true.
Its all about EFs since theyre older and and you barley ever see them fixed up right.

I'd say the shorter wheelbase is a plus for auto-x, as well as road racing. Consider the EF Civic and CRX domination of G and H stock, and other solo 2 classes.
why would that be a plus? also, whats the difference between hydro trannys and cable trannys?

Quicker turn in, car rotates more easily. More 'twitchy' but that's a good thing in that context. Of course for drag racing, as mentioned above a longer wheel base helps. That's why you see 'wheelie' bars on some FWD drag cars, as they're setup with some preload that lengthens the effective wheelbase of the car.
I think the big plus of the hydraulic clutch is that some desirable swaps only are paired with transmissions with hydraulic clutches. This avoids having to convert the pedal assembly/linkage from being cable operated.
