thouse cars are not common for transmissions im a tech for an acura dealer with 7 years working on these cars but they are common for harsh shifting when was the last time u had the car serviced??? and when was the last time the trans fluid was changed??? and how many miles does it have on it ??? but like i said in all the 7 years i have worked for acura i have only done one of thouse transmissions but if it comes down to it take it to the dealer and they will tell you if its the tranny or a poss bad shift sol. or lock up sol. but i wouldnt take it to joe and dans transmission service shop thouse kind of places you will always have problems even after the repair is made. when you go to the dealer you get a remaned transmission that is rebuilt by the factory so you are much better off that way

He has a '97 TL. The TL trans. problem started with the 2000 model year. The '97 trans. is totally different. I have seen a few of these 1st gen. TL's with trans. problems but not many.
