CRX B16 Highway Questions
JDM B16A and Tranny. I recently transfered jobs to a local salvage yard with a nice starting pay and benifits
. The catch is its a few towns over and I'll be taking a local highway (I-4) to work. I usually cruise at around 85 which is at 54 or 5500 RPM's in 5th.. The commute is about 15-20 mins of that RPM. As long as I maintain requent oil changes and watch the coolant I should be alrite with this right? Does anyone else do this? I would imagine its fine. Since the Civic Si is a common highway car.

Psh, I've driven my crx with the YS1 tranny back and forth from school to home so many times, I've lost count. 150 miles @ 80mph, it don't care. I get >32mpg too. And if you have the YS1, 85mph won't be 5500 rpm, more like 4600, the stock tach sucks. Highway miles are usually easier on oil because the engine runs leaner than accelerating while in town, so there's less contaminants formed.
buhaha, 80 miles round trip to see the gf when i had the b16 / s1 tranny was no problem! 80mph @ 5k i think it was...ah, the good ole' days.

YS1? I always though there was the Y1 the J1 and the S1.. Never heard of a YS1? I know im at 5400 RPM atleast because im using the PR3 ECU and if I punch it Vtec is obvious. While cruising and mildly accelerating Vtec doesnt engage.

try it with no cat, es oval and no radio in a gutted crx.
now that's dedication!

those rpms are about right.. thats what i was at. the car wont complain but like anything else, will wear out quicker. bearings, rings and cylinder hone.. no different than a tire with 4,000 miles vs a tire with 10,000 miles. more rpm = more times the crankshaft and pistons wear into the bearings and bore.
now is the time to put those 18's back on and bring the revs down a hair. definately stay on top of the oil changes.

all 92-93 integras had a YS1 tranny. (the GSR obviously got the shorter geared one) Then there was a JDM YS1 with an optional LSD.

i am 5hrs away from home here at wyotech and i go home alot cruisin 80-130mph (no joke all seriousness here) the whole time and its fine never had a problem. the only thing i can say is yes ckeck oil and coolant often but not because its hurting the motor but because encase you do have a small leak you wont accidently hurt the motor or overheat it.
I have a B16A which from my understanding is a JDM CRX SiR motor. Then I use a Pr3 ECU which is an Integra XSi ECU. The PW0 is the CRX SiR ecu right?
yes you are correct there i also have the JDM B16A1 but mines out of a 91 SiR Hatch. but im running the stock ecu for that motor the PW0. for me at 5600rpm im doing about a 100 in 5th. and 80 is about 4600rpm.

As was I...
The B16A that came in the CRX's were the first Vtec engines ever put in a production car. The 88 CRX was also the first honda to use PGM-FI

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if you are cruising along at 80MPH then even though your RPM's are at 5500ish RPM's you wont be in VTEC cause your oil pressure isnt high enough. And also isn't VTEC x-over dependent on throttle position, so if you are not at WOT or close to it you wont be in VTEC?

The PR3 has a throttle sensitive vtec activiation. The Pw0 has an RPM activiation.

haha i have a y1 and do 4300 at 70mph....vtec engages(mugen chipped pr3) at 4300 so i cant go over 70mph cuz i will get crappy gas mileage...i drive to work and back on freeways, but its not too much of a prob...la traffic keeps me well under 70
just found this this solves it in a way we are all right and wrong....i guess...but the B16a1 was from th JDM CRX SiR and the b16a was from the hatch. but anyway heres this that i found.
