Default crvtec overheating!!!

hey guys
alright this is the story...b20 bored to 85mm..12.5 CP pistons, b16 head, block gaurd..... keeps running hot, yesterday filled w/ coolant, used the bleeder on thermostat housing, no air, ran HOT, TRIED AGAIN...ran w/ radiator cap off... raised rpms to get the air to bleed out... test drove, STILL,,... the thermostat is a oem B16 and installed properly, bleeder hole upwards(cant go in backwards) .. radiator was left open over 14months..(thats when I had it running before stock bottom end, not overheating at all) saw corrosion build up w/in radiator... replaced the radiator, used new coolant(other had crap in it) used bleeder, reved and filled w/ coolant,, idling fine. (oh fans running! have it constant) went off for another drive(thinking everythings cool) started to run hot again (not as high as the day before) I had the heater valve open during bleeding... somtimes its hot air,... sometimes its cold( think its airpockets) cant seem to figure it out... starting to think the thermostat is defective... bottom hose is cool.. top is blazing... what you guys think?.. thanks

well, this thread is gonna go this direction...

everyone is gonna jump the block guard.
you are gonna take out the thermostat and boil it to see it open, but it will be ok.
but then end up running it without the thermostat and use straight water.
its still gonna get hot.
you're are gonna do a leakdown for the headgasket.
its gonna be ok.
everyone is gonna keep saying the block guard.
you are gonna dig up a picture of it on the net and post it.
every will procede to point out the 'evil' within it.

but thats just my prediction

my friend did a ghetto rig on his 4g63 dsm. he just drilled out the center of the thermostat so it flowed a ton more water. solved his problem. but his car is inherintly not running right cause its ghetto rigged

maybe you have a coolant hose leak somewhere within the system, although you may have the fan on constant, the water/coolant is not circulating because when the pump is spinning the hot water, its not going anywhere becasue the leak is bleeding off the pump.

i hope you can make sense to what i just wrote, that happened to me with my lsvtec, it turns out i had a tiny crack on my radiator. i replaced that and it happened to me again with my gsr becuase i blocked off a hose with a bolt and it was leaking so it was overheating...

i hope this helps

if the motor is getting hot and the lower hose is cold while the top is hot then it is your thermostat.

well I am starting to think its the damn HG.... I dont know why it wouild be... everthing was right.. only 3rd day together... seems like tyhe bottom hose constaly gets air in it.. I left it runing at idle... rad. cap off...got both of the hoses to feel hot.. I was like "finally" test drove...getting 3/4 hot... pulled over... tried to get the air out from the bottom hose... coolant cool and air built up w/in... freaking ticking me off... unless theres a leak some where that letting the air in... Ill check it out I guess after Thanksgiving

I would think if you are running that hot, you would be having some smoke out the tailpipe or at least visibly be burning coolant.

thats what i was thinking..?

also how are you filling the radiator? there should be a bleeder valve on the head you can open and it lets air out of the top tube.. did you open that? or maybe your radiator has junk in it? have you tried to flush the system since? run water through the radiator with the bottom hose off?

thanks guys..
yea radiator was open for 14 months... thuoght it was that, replaced still no luck, yes I used that 12mm bleeder... it seems to not flow constant coolant though.. its like spirts..I really hope it not compression.... also the engine is running smooth.. no smoke.... its not burning it.... I wonder if air is getting darwn in somewhere.. but its just not making an obvous leak... water pump new ITR.. radiator cap... old but looks ok.. not leaking......thinking about replacing for the hell of it... beats pulling the head...
