Default The origin of the name CR-X. Read about it here

There is a lot of speculation as to why the CR-X is named CR-X. Some people say it is Civic Race Xprerimental, etc. This is from the Japanese Honda website and has been translated using Babelfish.

" The Car Renaissance (car * Renaissance) there is the meaning, unknown " in CR-X delsolc:cr-X. The numerous technology which informs the reformation of the car was included in the CR-X, car (the Renaissance) of being proud, was named of future the new life. It came to the point of as for the present CR-X which becomes 3rd generation, while pouring the light of positive, as a pleasant sensation of opening and the reformist coupe which is compatible the comfort of the coupe, it represented the refreshing impression of the open air cruising which it runs " the del sol ("the sun - " Spanish which is meant)" with to say, having the sub name.

Basically I think they meant to say Civic Rennaisance Experimental or X for unknown.

Officially Honda refers to the CRX as 'Civic CRX'

That's what it really stands for

Civic Renaissance Model-X

And CR-V really does stand for Comfortable Runabout Vehicle. Seriously it does.
Came right off of Honda's literature for salespeople.
