Default LS motor cam skipped timing problem.

here is the dillemma i have a B18B and for some reason when we pu the new belt on the motor and turned the crank a couple of times the cam skipped about 2 teeth. and im not sure why that would happen and if there is a way to fix it. im thinking maybe i should just swap the whole head out. becuz i have 3 of them and im sure that one is good. is there anything anyone can think of to find out what may be the problem. or will it be less work to just swap the head.. thanks for any input.

sounds like your timing belt tensioner might have **** the bed........but I am no expert........ask around but I would probably start there.

u no what the tensioner is fucked up but we rigged it to stay in one place without the spring and the whole on the right side of it on the tensioner and tightened it that way is that a bad thing cuz if its just the tensioner it may be a waste of time to swap the head i will have to get the area were the tensioner bolt goes filled and redrilled and tapped.. im not sure how easy that would be to do though. ... grr this **** is so frustrating. hurts my feelings right about now.

sorry for the run on sentences.

what you need to do is get a new tensioner with the spring and do it right! first set it all on TDC and then redo the belt and make sure you make the belt tight but not too tight, if your car sounds like it has a "BLOWER" the belt is too tight. it probly jumped cause it was not tensioned right...

rigging youre timing belt tensioner isnt the smartest thing to do. you may as well just put blocks of metal in your combustion chamber

yea but the whole that the tensioner bolt goes into isnt in the greatest shape anymore since we had to drill it and retap it. sinces there was still a lil bit of the old bolt in there the whole is not completely str8 therefore. when we go to tighten the tension when the spring and side whole are on the side whole wont stay on the peg. so that is why we cant use the normal one i was thinking of taking it to a machine shop getting the whole filled and retaped to see if we can get it str8 if we can then i wont have to buy a new block.. which is going to suck if i have to do that.

then you should take it to a welding shop, that can weld aluminum, have them fill it, drill it, and retap it
