Default went down in my bike at 100 mph....

Well, this is my first big crash, I went down before, but it was low speed and nothing was major....

Story,

I was riding out to get a massage (yeah, I know ) by the time I came out, it was puring like crazy, I hadn't checked to see if it was going to rain later in the evening...

So I was like, suck it up and get it home....so I did...

I was passing some heavy traffic at about 109 mph and finally slowed down once I was about 100 yds from the traffic behind me...( I have a black bike and black gears, so it was hard to see at night for most cars)

As I was riding away, I came up to an uneven paved road and the tire slid and lowside me pretty much...

I must've rolled about 50 yards or so, and tumbled at least a dozen times, one truck that I passed was watching my tail lights when I went down and he said that I tumbled at least 4-5 times when he passed me. My bike slides accross the freeway and landed in the middle of a 4 lane freeway about 100 yards in front of where I landed (on the shoulder, 3 feet from a guard rail).

My DVS shoes came off of my foot, so I was rolling around barefooted and left me with a hole in my foot, Ouch...

Anyway, my jacket and helmet pretty much saved my ***, I walked up and walked straight to the bike and I pretty much made it out with a couple of bruises and a few road rash...nothing big..

The bike stator cover is shaved down pretty good, oil leaked out everywhere, slider took most of the beating as well as clutch lever...a few scrathes on the plastic, but they can be touch up.

So, lesson to learned, invest in leather, tuck and roll when you crash, don't ride in the rain, don't ride too fast in the rain and wear a real boot...

Anyway, ride safe and be carefull

Yeah, It wasn't my best judgement whatsoever....I didn't realize how fast I was going until I looked down and saw 109, I immediately let off the throttle (didn't want to brake and lock up the tires)...

I almost got blindsided earlier, so I was trying to pass all the traffic as it is hard to be visible on the bike.

What I think I should've done ? pull over and have a smoke break...but..

Tuck and roll? I don't think that's right. You're supposed to stay loose during the fall and slide.

Glad to hear you made it out ok.

I did, I pretty much held both my hands to my shields to protect my chest and face.

Hah, if it was me, I'd do the same. Mostly try to protect my face thinking, "Oh no, not my nice helmet."

ouch. glad to see you came out of it relatively alright. that seam coming apart is kinda bad but it did save you from any bad rash. looks like i will be investing in boots, i know my dc's will come off should i ever fall.

None of the seams actually tore apart, the ones that you guys see was actually the zipper up ventilation hole, that I closed because it was manily used for in the summer time to get some air inside the jacket.

Trust me, I'll wear Icon jacket anytime...after this crash I definitely endorse Icon....and alpinestar. Dainese is nice, but too damn expensive...the Icon and alipnestars works very well for the money..

I will never buy anything from Icon

If you were hurt really bad I would feel sorry for you and say get well or something along those lines. Since your all and well let me be the first to call you a dumbfuck. Raining or not 100+ on the streets is asking for trouble in traffic no less.

Oh well lesson learned I guess. Heal up, fix the bike, and buy a better jacket.
Ride safe... next time.

EDIT: nm, wear it if you like it.

Yeah, it was a good lesson to learned, again, I was going a bit faster than normal to get away from traffic, as I was almost blindsided earlier from not being too visible in a rain with black gear and bike.

I could've get away from the traffic with lesser speed, but when I look on the cluster I was already at 109 mph, which at that time, I let off the throttle to slow down

As I said, it wasn't my best judgement at all, but hey, you live, you learn and you get smarter and better....which I am definitely am right now..

Thanks

Stan

The cause of the bike went down was from going on an uneven paved lanes....

Stan</TD></TR></TABLE>

Im guessing the "cause" of your crash was high speeds, plus wet conditions, plus uneven lanes. Ive ridden on some REAL shitty roads and never put it down. Im willing to bet when you hit the uneven pavement the rear end mightve started fishtailing on you and you panicked and the rest is history. I usually go 10UNDER the speed limit(not 50over) when its raining, I dont care if I look like a tool or not. Your a smart guy, Im sure youve learned your lesson. Glad your ok

stan, i gotta side with everyone else here. you can always slow down. traffic will pull away and give you room. you can argue all you want, but this could have been prevented, you have to admit that. at 55mph you are way more likely to recover from uneven pavement than at 100mph.

i know cars changing lanes into you freaks me out too, but rain is a huge impairment to your maneuverability. i guess you know this now. like i said, thank god you're not seriously injured and a lesson well learned.

The bike did started to fishtail, I have run into situation where the rear end fishtail many times, but I usually just let it slide and try not to fight it. From my past experience, when I try to fight the fishtailing, it ended up being worst than just let it have it and not fighting it.

From what I can recall, the front tire started to go to the uneven lanes, it started to fishtail, but at that high speed, it was fishtailing at a faster rate than I if I was at much lower speeds..

So yeah, you got it the right, the speed factor, the uneven lanes and wet road were definitely the major causes of the crash...

yeah, I definitely learned my lesson, if anything can be prevented, I was the one that can prevent it, but I didn't. I had some race compound pirelli tires and boosted my confidence a bit.

I preached this so many times, " when you get to the point of being too comfortable and have too much confidence with your bike, is when you'll be more likely to crash "

Now, I have to eat my own words.... oh well, I am okay and I definitely learned a big lesson...

see my above comments...and....uh, race compounds give you LESS traction in wet conditions.

or colder conditions. i have bridgestone bt002's on my bike; today it was pretty cold out when i went out (40's?) and i was just spinning. on any other day these tires are pretty good. soft to the point where i can press really hard on them with my thumb and faintly see my prints.

Race compounds, wet weather, not up to temp=shitty tires
