Default 2.5" mandrel bend w/ES tuning review

I bought my SS exhaust piping from KTeller and just had it installed with the ES oval. I don't have a resonator on the piping right now but i do have a high flow cat and my exhuast is way too loud. is 2.5" piping just alot louder than 60mm piping or do i just need a long resonator to quiet it down? the sound is unbearable in the midrange btw the piping kit from KTeller for the 4th gen fit great until the rear section, which had to be cut and refit but it looks really nice with the ES tuning muffler. What should i do about the noise though? am i screwed with 2.5" piping? This is on a JDM H22.

get a resonator...what were you thinking in not running one? dont blame the piping or the muffler...my car wiht a stock exhaust already sounds horrible w/o one...it sux...trust me invest the money in the resonator...it wont rob any horsepower.

Yea if you want it real quiet get two resonators of different size routed in your exhaust system. It will sound stock. Until you floor the bitch

alright thanks. i hope it makes the noise bareable because resonators are $80 installed at an exhaust shop wherever i look.. i think i'm going to get a 22" one put on after the cat.

i looked at my greddy evo piping and it has a 12" and 16" resonator back to back.. that would be sweet if i had the money but do you think the 22" resonator will be enough to make the sound bareable?

I have a 22in resonator on my 2.5 pipe and believe me its still quite loud ( lower than what you have now I'm sure)but still loud to my liking.I was also thinking of getting a second one maybe 16in.The guys at the shop agreed that the sound will become more of a rumble and in certain cases people dont like the rumble too low because everything in the car shakes ( a little like when you have too much bass going through speakers). So i'm staying as is untill I find a better solution.good luck.

2 smaller sized resonators spaced evenly in your piping would def. muffle down the sound. Most after market companies have 2 resonators in their b pipes. Follow that and your sound should sound deep and bassy.

i still have the greddy evo for sale but i forgot to repost it in the F/S forum. i had a 22" resonator put in place today and wow that made the exhaust much quieter i can barely hear it below 3K rpms, but it's still a little loud around 3-5K rpms where i usually shift at around town. i'll just have my trunk dynomatted since the original owner took out all the sound deadening material.

i'll have pics up later today.

i looked through the resonator and it's straight through but it had metal poking up through the inside to catch the sound or wuttever. it looks like it would hurt performance but i don't know, the shop said it wouldn't . heres a pic i took of the muffler:

you should of bought a resonator that has a perforated core ... i read that a louvered muffler or resonator restricts ex. flow...

You might want to think about getting a tip for your muffler unless you want exhaust puke all over your bumper . . . keep us up to date on your exhaust. I have a greddy evo2 right now, but might have to ditch it if I want the smsp header.

the ES tuning mufflers sell pretty fast.. i wouldn't be surprised if no one carried it right now because they got their new shipment a couple weeks ago.

the tip actually doesn't look too big in person.. i doubt anyone would notice that its aftermarket unless you take a long look at it. but my computer keeps crashing everytime i upload a new pic so i think i'm going to stop with the picture posting. i just wanted to show eveyrone how it looked from the back.. its kinda wide and goes well with the width of the prelude body.

thanks guys.. i read up a little on the louvered type core my resonator has and it looks like everyone is saying that it puts some backpressure into the exhaust system and restricts the flow a little. but the perforated core type doesn't dampen sound that much. i'm glad they used a louvered core resonator then because i can deal with the noise of a 2.5" pipe much better now at the expense of a hp or two (probably top end).. the car does "feel" a little more torquey down low with the resonator.

How does it sound frome the outside?? Have you had some one drive your car while you stood outside and listened?? Cuz I have a similiar set up to yours and it sounds real loud from inside of my car but people say it does'nt sound that loud from the out side. More of a rumble but not too bad.
