Default Whats in a name?

Where did the "Type R" nomenclature originate? Are there any other manufacturers who used this name as well?

Well..I can't explain it but it probably has to do with racing. Se-R, GT-R, Type-R etc etc

my hero.

I understand what R stands for. I was wondering if Acura originated the name, or if other cars had R versions before or after Acura's use of R.

This may said stupid but I once heard, or read in a magazine that the Type R logo was acquired from some fighter jet built but McDonald Douglas, F-15 or something with which they built a Type R version that was supposed to be light, fast, and maneuverable and this is what the NSX was supposed to achive. Now I cant remeber what mag this was printed in but it sounds cool but who knows if it is the true... Any body know anything about this???

Well the NSX Type R was acually the first Honda with the Type R badge, wasnt it? Somebody posted a pic of some 1986 honda that said Type R on it, looked like a ford feista, but not sure it is was the real deal or not...

Looked instantly like a Honda City to me... my family used to own one (not a Type R).
Unfortunately here in Australia they didn't have the little moped in the back.

Yea, but did anyone have "Type R" before Honda, not just "R?"
