Default Backfire

My 89 CRX starts O.K. It seems to surge when idling. When you start out the car runs fine in first gear. It sputters going into second. It also has very little power. If the car is idling and you press the gas pedel, it bacf fires through the intake. Any suggestions?

ignition timming that is. I remember when I installed my dizzy 180 backwerd it would fire thru the intake ( firing on the intake stroke )

Line up number 1 clyinder top Dead center. Find number 1 on the dizzy cap. Take out dizzy turn rotor so its firing on number one cylinder. reinstall and adjust timming with timming light.
