poor man's type-r
I have no idea but who really cares anyway? Just build what you want to build. You could do a lsvtec easily under the price of a ITR or CTR swap and have a stronger motor if done right(ie: higher comp pistons, CTR cams, ARP rod bolts etc.).
Didn't say I wanted to build one, just curious. Ive looked into lsvtec before, and yes it does have strong power potential, but Ive heard it isn't very reliable. This post isn't about lsvtec however, so back on topic. I still would like to know your people's opinions of the poor man's type-r and what its all about.
Whoever told you it wasn't reliable was VERY wrong. We (the shop etc.) Have been building LS/VTEC s for YEARS. Many have seen 12's with stock internals, i.e. nitrous, boost etc. As long as you understand how they work etc. they are a powerhouse motor for any daily driver. Do not assume they are "un-reliable" because some shade-tree mechanic hack f*cked their's up. If I could go back a couple of years to my first swap, I would've done LS/VTEC in a heartbeat.
Just...just...do not assume...

Ok, im sorry for assuming ls/vtec was unreliable. Thats what I heard but you proved me wrong. Blueallie, thx for clearing up what a poor mans type-r setup is.

Well I guess it would work if you want your pistons going into your head.

hmmm high compression pistons from a b16 into a lower compression b16....I see no problem there
Are you sure your not thinking of an ITR which is a b18?

He's referring to the B16B/CTR rod length - they're too long to be used in a normal B16A engine because of the block height difference. But you CAN use B16B pistons in a B16A block (after performing a rod-mod to the B16A rods).

poor mans R isnt a LSVtec.
GSR block + b16 head.
