Default Give up?

I have an awesome condition 90 accord ex. It has been garaged for most of its life. No rust and the interior is mint. I had a gasket oil leak and never fixed it and now one of the cylinders doesn't work so the car doesn't run well. Mechanic tells me I need an engine swap. In the meantime I got another car to drive to work but I'm keeping this car with plans for it down the road. Should I give up on the car for a big swap and continue paying $50 a month storage or sell it for parts?

Save up for an H22 swap, they aren't that expensive and is bolts right in to a 1990.

Honostly in my opinion swap the motor....If you sell it for parts you wont make as much as you would like because the motor is the biggest profit. You could try and rebuild your motor... I'm not exactly sure whats wrong with it but if you have a little bit of extra time and money i would do it that way.

id start looking for a motor... it sounds like if you want to keep that motor youre going to need to bore that block... and aftermarket oversized pistons are mucho expensive for hondas imo.

well im open to either getting the same engine (used) for about $600 and $500 in labor. All the accesories to the motor are also in great condition. The H22a swap looks like it would cost about $2500 just for the engine/tranny without the labor. I also have an automatic and don't think its worth the cash to change to manual. I don't think I've seen a 90 in this good shape so I'd hate to see it go.

The car is in Mass right now. I'm not sure exactly what is wrong other than the mechanic telling me the car is only running on 3 cylinders. After driving it for 5 minutes or so it wants to stall when I come to a complete stop, so I roll past stop signs.

Bump on this.

I still own this car. Should I rebuild this engine or get a swap. Does anyone know a junkyard in the Northeast I can get a F22A4 OR F22A6?

Thanks

Keep the car and save for the swap. Don't throw the stock engine back into it. You can do the H22 swap yourself and it's definitely worth the money.

WTF? the car was kept in the garage and there was an oil leak, the car just sat there and now the engine is bad?? I'd be finding another mechanic...unless the real story is[crysal ball is sparking to life] you drove the car out of oil and toasted the block/threw a rod/fried the camshaft?

Maybe swap an h23 in there... And do the auto to manual conversion. You won't regret it.

Well, to have a 90 Accord with no rust in the Northeast is a complete rarity.

Unless emissions are really strict in your state have you considered the F22b DOHC out of the JDM Prelude? Mechanicially similar to the H23, and a cheaper alternative than a H22 with the ability to find a lower mileage motor, it may be worth looking into.

Finding another F22 isn't all that hard really. They're always floating around.

I would get an f22b1 out of an Accord EX 94-97, I seem them for sale all the time here from people that swap them out. It will be a bit better than your old engine and very cheap

Thanks for the advice.
The full story on the car is this.
I bought the car from a nurse who must of bought it from an old man who garaged it because the interior is mint and even the original floor mats seemed new. I was amazed and lucky to get the car for $2000 18 months ago.

Anyway the only problem with the car is that it leaked oil. My original mechanic told me "If your going to keep this car you better fix that leak" Of course I don't and 20,000 hard NYC miles go by and I am pouring a quart of oil in the car every week. Apparently it needed a new gasket.

I was moving to Massachusetts (because I got a job here) and with a car full of stuff, including a 27" tv in the front seat next to me the car popped and lost compression in one of the cylinders. It was shaking pretty hard.

I brought the car to a mechanic in Mass and he told me the bad news that I need a new engine and that there is no compression in one of the cylinders.

I will look into that place in Lowell. I need a mechanic to install this.

Doing a F22b1 isn't really worth it IMO. You have to rewire to get the whole VTEC situation working, and you get only 5 more hp than the F22a6. Its as much work as an H22 swap, withtout the benefits.

I'd seriously look into the F22b DOHC if the H22 isn't an option. Its got 160 hp, definitely widely available, and still responds to the standard F mods.

If that's too exotic, just get the F22a6 out of a 92-93 EX or 91 SE. Just make sure you get the PT6 ecu, so you can wire up the Dual Runners.

Hmm $300 for a working F22A4 or a F22A6 (SE engine) with only 57k for double the price.....
Also need to get a cpu for the F22A6, correct..

its $ 300 for the engine and $300 for the labor. now if your car is an ex model then you wont have to change the ecu even if you where to put an lx engine on the ex. when they put mines on it was an lx engine and my car was an se. the most you should pay for the engine is $300- $400
