Default My Carsound Cat is rattling out of control...need help

I noticed that a few days ago I was starting to get a rattling sound on start-up around the location of my cat. I originally thought that the O2 sensor had come loose so I jacked it up to fix the problem, but it turns out that the heat shield has come slightly apart at one of the seams. Therefore, it causes a really annoying rattle at startup that lasts for a good 5 minutes.

What is the best way to fix the problem? Should I clamp it or have it welded back together. I am assuming that is how the heat shield were originally attached. The Cat has only been on my car for a little over 4 months.

Just clamp the shield down and weld it. I sent you a pic on how I do mine. I had a couple cats break the spot welds and start to rattle like you describe but I don't know of any after I started placing about 10 welds per side.

Had the same problem with my carsound cat. the left rear tack weld came apart on my cat (if your under the car looking up at the cat). I just drilled two small holes where the tack welds are on the left side and put bolts/lock washers/and nuts in there to hold the shield together. Haven't had a problem since.

I like typer158's method. I hear a ticking sound when the car is warmed up. I wonder if mine is coming apart too.
