Is it worth it to buy the Type-S than just base?
I'm planning to buy an RSX soon and was wondering if the Type-S version was really worth going for? I personally just like the way the car looks and probably won't be doing any serious mods except for the simple bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, wheels, etc.) that a weekend DIY-mechanic would do.
I ask this cause since the base is already fully loaded and the Type-S only offers a few extra things... is it worth the trouble to find one and even pay more for an older model as to maybe even less or the same price for a newer base model?
All input would be greatly appreciated... and forgive the repost. I did some searches and came with nothing. Maybe i couldn't search correctly.
Thanks!
Also, are there any issues that i should look out for? Bad tranny? Engine issues? Recalls?

Okay, did some research on other websites/forums and found this thing with a recall on grinding gears and bad synchros?! God, i hate finding things out like this about a car i want to buy. I know it's few in the thousands, but these guys who had problems had less than 30k miles on the odometer!
Any feedback is appreciated! I'll keep reading up on this problem and learn more stuff.

Well, the Type-S offers alot more power over the base model, a 6 speed tranny and some different color combinations. But other than that they are basically the same car.
Personally if I was to spend that much money on a car, I would go all out and just get the Type-S, but that's just my opinion. I don't really like the RSX's, never really have, but i think I'm one of the very few who doesn't.
As for issues with the RSX, there are alot of little annoyances but really no major issues. The only one you'll hear alot of people talking about is the 3rd gear tranny issue, but other than that they are pretty good cars.

Does the base auto tranny with sportshift have any problems? Sorry to ask, i'm sure everyone here has a manual. The reason being is that the prelude auto with sportshift supposedly really sucks. Does is apply to the RSX?
40 more hp, ridiculously better gearing, better suspension, leather and bose stereo standard, better launch platform for modding. The list goes on and on. Get a type S. A base rsx is for people who can't drive stick and girls.
trust me, buy the type-s you'll be much happier

when you don't have those extra things, thats when you wish you had them most (leather, nice bose system, 6cd changer, etc.)

the guy is considering an auto, he doesn't really care that the type s is a better performer. Just grab a base with whatever options you like and you'll be happy.

Actually, i'm really considering the Type-S... i only asked about the auto because of the tranny issues with the gearbox that i've been reading about. I was wanting to know if the auto tranny was faulty too?
I'm strongly gearing towards a Type-S anyways, but am worried about the tranny problems that i read from people. I almost bought an auto 97 prelude only to find out that the tranny was doomed to die.
Anyways, is the tranny trouble related to the 5sp or 6sp? I read the TSB on it and even though there is a year and VIN range, there are still owners out there that fall out of the range with tranny problems; and some with cars with super low miles?!
Thanks for all the input guys! I'm definitely looking for an RSX right now as well as other candidates, but the RSX Type-S is at the top!

Stupiest thing ive heard someone say in this forum in a while.
Just get an S. With you giving it this much consideration, after a short time with the base you will regret not putting out for the extra power and better suspension.
ALthough i couldnt afford an S at the time, i regret now maybe not waiting a lil bit so i can get one, or just getting a used one. Tell you what, go drive a type s and then the base. Both are very nice cars, but you will know instantly which one you want. Goodluck.

The ONLY reason to buy a base IMO, is if you want the auto trans (which has run flawlessly for me after 34K miles). Yes there are savings in payments and insurance but most cost conscious drivers wouldn't consider the RSX in the first place.
Type S, no question. Its a blast to drive right off the lot and way more room to upgrade.
I bought mine to replace my dear departed hybrid (may the theives be *** raped in hell for eternity) and while the stock suspension in the Type S isn't a match for my old civic that is my only complaint.
OK not the only one. It desperately needs an LSD to put the power down and the stock tires suck
Oh well....Thats Honda for you
As soon as I have the funds its getting a Quaife, Tein coilovers, and a set of SSR SP-1's
