EP3/DC5 Challenge at SOW - Redlinetrackevent
Congratulation to everyone who participated. If you guy want an uncompressed version, please email. mackyenjai@hotmail.com

It was nice to see you guy duked it out on the track. I wish I had an RSX-S. What a great car it is. I got to sit with William, the guy at the end. To my surprise, he did pretty well considering a totally stock car with mismatched front-rear tire.
Good luck next time guys,
-mack

It was great having you guys out there! What a great time had by all!
Should be mentioned that one of the Silver RSX's was one of my students. He did a very good job all day improving his time, and keeping his cool. Built his speed through out the day!
Ended up about 7 seconds faster after we went out for an on track session of in car instruction! For those that don't know, 7 seconds at any track, especially steets of willow is HUGE!
Thanks for coming out guys! Look for more events in the future, and I will hope to see you there! Next one is Dec 17!

This are times I wrote down on piece of paper. If I made a mistake, my apology.
I will list position according to time only, no modification has been accounted for. The official results should be posted by Redline staff.
Theodore Park - Silver RSX-S Mod ?
1:35.280-1:36.316 (7 laps)
William Onkumpol - Blue RSX-S Mod-stock
1:41.574-1:44.067 (7 laps)
Seth Paniton(sp?) - Car?
1:41.609-1:44.000 (7 laps)
Dean Chan - Car?
1:41.998 - 1:45.617 (8 laps?)
Edgar Garcia - Car?
1:44.928 (2 laps?)
Charles Saha - Car?
1:48.764 -1:52.928 (2 laps?)
My comments:
1. Ted was really fast. His lines were smooth and accurate.
2. William was also fast for the first time at SOW and 3 months with the car. I may be a bit bias since he is my friend but it was fast enough to surprise me.
3. The time for Seth and Dean were very consistent.
4. Great job everyone.

Sounds like you guys had a good event but I'm one of those track-car-evangelist types who gets worried when he sees transponders on cars without full safety equipment.
A high-performance school is a very different thing than a race - even without open passing - and most of the difference comes down to whether or not times are being taken.
I'm just afraid that you're playing a game without bringing all of the right equipment along. Please be careful.

good looking out kurt. but imo all people who goto DE's sign a waver that says it is a dangerous sport and if things go wrong one could get seriously hurt.
personally i've never felt timing the event is any issues. it's the mentality that affects the judgement; not timing itself.

...but this was a race. It all comes down to the purpose of the activity. I've taught at HPDE-like things since the mid-'80s and the purpose has always been to improve driver skill. It's completely accurate that people come into those activities with all kinds of attitudes and, while some of them need to be managed, many will be fine with or without timing laps.
The point at which the times are formally compared and a "winner" is declared, the purpose has changed pretty dramatically.
Understand that a big part of why this bothers me is that I don't want to have to read another "tragedy at..." thread here but equally, it doesn't do our sport ANY good when someone gets hurt or killed. The insurers and public don't make the kind of distinctions that we are talking about here.

time seem a little bit slow for the mod, unless all the drivers are newbie to that track. however, it is all good.
Hi Knestis, this is a very controlled time trail activity. Our challenges are not something we just drooped into an opentrack day. We've been running these for quite some time now. No one is allowed to participate in a timed trail race without proper training. Matter of fact, I've found that most people who engage in timing are more focused on the task at hand and are trying to improve driving skill. Timing is great training tool, and one of the best ways to improve driving skill, once the driver is ready and prepared for it. The people who are new to the track don't time themselves. When you reach a level of experience that requires timing, then the driver is ready to move on, and has proven to me (the event organizer) that they are ready for it. We are very safety conscious and understand your point well. I appreciate your concerns, but safety is of the highest standard at all our event.
I hope you can join us at the track sometime in the future to see how we run things out here.

Guys, I don't know how serious is this challenge. If it is for fun, then no big deal. However, from what I have witness and video taped. Both EP DNF, did not finish.
Superkool, the raw times you posted seemed to be incorrect. You didn't take the best time of the day, did you? If so, I don't know what to tell you.
Here are the times that was posted for EP3/DC5 Challenge at the event.
Park-best 1:35.280 +6.95s = 1:42.23
Onkumpol-best 1:41.574 +2.0s = 1:43.574
Panitch-best 1:41.609 +3.1s = 1:44.709
Chen -best 1:41.998 +5.45s = 1:47.448
Garcia - DNF
Sahs - DNF
1st - Park
2nd - Onkumpol
3rd - Panitch
As you can see, Park has a great car and he is a good driver as well. To everyone else, keep up the good work. EP3/DC5 are truely a great car indeed. I don't know if I would be able to hit 1:41, let alone below 1:45 in stock RSX-S.
See you guy at the next event.

Hi Jaysmy, I'll have to check into that. I didn't officiate the challenge results, so I don't know exactly what the final decisions were for the timing. They may have decided to only use the times that we posted during the challenge session. I'll double check with my partner Nik who was the person who officiated the challenge. I'm sure we'll refine the system in the future. This was really only a trail run. Everyone who participated are helping to create the final format that will be used once all the bugs are worked out. Thanks for pointing that out.

what are you talking about? 1:35.2 for a RSX-S with "K-Pro, DOT R-Compound Tires, Race Header, Exhaust System, Intake, Adjustable Coilovers " for mod's is good.
to that theodore guy.
For perspective my friend did 1:36 in his stock S2000, so that RSX-S is moving.
Chad is a EG did 1:33 something and the second fastest time was 1:35, and im pretty sure everyone had a more built motor than this guy.
But then again R compounds might not have been run with nissan vs. h-t

Hey guys, this is Dean. The guy w/ the white RSX (base, not type s). It was a great event and lots of fun. I know I wasn't running up to par since I this was more of a chance to see how my new suspension setup would work at the track. I've ran faster at SOWS before, but I just didn't exactly have too much confidence in myself w/ the new handling charicteristics. Well, see you guys at the next event!
Hey Dean, This is Will, the guy in the blue RSX. It was a lot of fun, also it's been nice to meet you. Here's my comment to your car, "Nice Front Lip!"
I don't really care much about how won the race but I'm impressed with my own result (it was just a big fluke). Although, my friend Mack here is even more impressed with my lap time that's because he thought me everything I know about car and how to drive it.
See you next time

well, if it is your car and with r compound, 1'35 is ok. my stolen car did 1'35 with itr motor(everything stock, no header no exhaust) with azenis(street trim, nothing was taken out). and there was before the 2nd hair pin is widen out. so with all the race header, k-pro, r compound, you at least have to run like chad(1'33) to be good(well, maybe the def of "good" is different between you and me)

Jaysmy,
Hey - I was with you at the track last fri, and just to clear things up, they announced at the beginning of the day they'd be taking our best lap for the day, not just the challenge (which was just an attempt to get us a clear shot at the track). Later runs were actually filled with even LESS traffic, so it was easier to get a complete lap. Even in the challenge, I ran up on traffic...
The results/ times announced on the website are correct. I think if they'd run the challenge session without ANY other traffic (2-3 hotlaps each) then it'd be a fair marker, but until they do, I think they did right by taking our best times.
I was PRKILLER'S student that day, and he did a tremendous job explaining a faster way around the track. I had only done about 60 min on that track before, and after his instruction, took my time down from 1:45 to (on the afternoon run) consistent 1:39's. His level of competence as an instructor should speak for itself...
As far as Ted's time (1:35)- he ran it consistently with me in the car AND with a touch of traffic. I am (admittedly) an absolute newbie at this, but in comparison to the other cars in his group, it seemed pretty darn good to me, even considering his level of modification. No Rsx's at the Speedventures event were anywhere near 1:35. Man, tough crowd over here...

Zelig,
No harm done bro. I got there late, missed my first session run, so I must apologize for not knowing that you guys would take the best time of the day.
Congratulation on improving your skill. You did well indeed.
I bet you if you had adjusted you tire pressure correctly, you would have been faster than PRKILL. Or you might need that big wing of his.
Since the challenge is still in its infant stage, I am looking forward for more growth and well organize event in the future. It should be fun to see 10-15 EP3/DC5 duke it out at the SOW.
I wish I have a RSX now so I can run with you guy. Maybe I can afford one couple years from now.

Hahaha, my front lip as all battle scared. Well, hopefully, I can get used to the settings more. Now I just gotta figure out why one of my tires is leaking slowly.
Oh well, off to the tire shop!

Jaysmy-
I won't be passing prkill, or much of anyone else, for some time, methinks.
As for the tire pressure- thanks for the heads up- the back end came around alot easier after we spoke.
