Gurus,
I've an Acura Integra - 1999 (4 DR Sedan - V4). I'm moving from Dallas (USA) to Maryland which is about 1300 miles. I'm planning to tow a 4X8 trailer with a 1-bed room furniture.
Is it advisable? Are they going to be tranmission problems later?

you can rent a U-haul truck, put your stuff in that, and tow a U-haul trailer with your car i think...

just a thought.

 

Yeah I can do that but the problem is money........itz about $1300 for that and if I tow the trailer itz about $400.

 

u may have some issues since our cars dont have that much lbs/tq dont go uphill

It would be possible, yes. However, most sport-compact cars are designed to be light, and 4-cyl hondas typically have low torque. If you look in your owners manual, it should read "not recommended for towing."

I wouldn't tow anything unless I had at least a V6 in the car, and had some weight to the car in order to ensure that the "tail doesn't wag the dog." My father was in a very bad car accident where he was pulling a 3500-lb tractor with a ~2900-lb jeep. The trailor started wobbling back and forth and eventually flipped the whole thing.

 

i know money is an issue. but i'll throw this as an idea to you..

rent a uhaul truck, and get the car tow addition for the rear, drag teggy along w/ you, while hauling your ish.

othe then that.. if your teg has a trailer hitch in the rear, you can TRY it.. but it will push the *** end of your whip down pretty far.

calculate the weight of the trailer and the ish inside of it and see if your car can handle it. shouldnt have any tranny problems if you fallow your maximum allowences

 

I wouldn't tow anything heavier than a jet ski in an Integra.

 

Look in the manual. I believe there is a section on towing. I forgot, I don't have my Integra anymore.

If I remember correctly, there should be a section about weights. Tongue loads, maximum weight, and all that nonsense. Just a small trailer with some furniture should be fine. Just don't shift too aggressively, as the extra stress would be the worst on your transmission.

What are you talking about? Any car can tow. He isn't towing a damn mobile home, he is towing a 4x8 trailer carrying bedroom furniture. That's probably the equivalent of having the car full of people and luggage. He just needs to read the manual and figure out what the weight limits are with tongue load and actual weight being pulled.

What's wrong with a front wheel drive, "4 bangin" car towing something? A FWD car is the safest out there for the average driver. And I'm willing to bet you're an average driver.

 

You think money is an issue, wait til you get to Dallas... then money will be an issue, with a slipping clucth and a fucked tranny. Id advise you to sell your furniture and buy some new **** once you get to Dallas.

He's moving TO MD, not to Dallas..I wouldn't go beyond what the manual say's..Other then that, you should be fine..

 

You could probably do it...be pretty bad on the clutch...I towed a 4000 lb truck like 20 miles once on the freeway in my 90 LS...a 800lb trailer should not be that bad.

 

Honestly, most of the thing are possible to happen if u make it happen. but in ur case i would'nt do it i rather rent a u-haul like wut everyone said.. its much better and more convenient.. just think about it while u moving and ur on the middle of the road all the sudden ur car stop (stall), thats too much hassle and of course when u finish moving u gonna have to get ur car fix.. its almost the same thing man.. of ask some of ur friends who got 4x4 truck or any Ford trucks F150 etc.... gud luck man..!!!

 

I remember back in the day my dad bought a 91 prelude and he towed our 15' boat with it.... never had any problem then so i don't see why this would hurt

 

Most major hitch manufacturers make 1-¼" hitches for both the 2-dr and the 4-dr models of the Integra line.

While these hitches are rated at a tow weight of 2,000 lbs, I would not tow more than 1,000 lbs. That tow weight includes both the trailer and the trailer contents.

The tongue weight is a very important issue. Hitches are rated at about 200 lbs but, again, lighter is the best. Try for about 50 lbs if it is achieveable.

I also have a Honda S2000 and it's got a three-pin removeable trailer hitch so that I can tow my track rubber and pit equipment to the track. I designed it to have a very balance load so that the typical toungue weight of 50 lbs. I have been towing it at high speeds all over the midwest to many, many track days and there is no ill effect.

If you are concerned about the impact of a long trip, consider installation of a transmission cooler. If you are at all handy you can install one in a single morning (with early start).

While it's your car and you are the final judge on this issue, if you closely follow the hitch manufacturer's recommendations, you should be okay.

I did not know that they rented trailers with 1-¼" hitches. What's the ball size?

I was just about to say that...

I have seen our cars tow jet ski's...I was shocked, but then again 4 people weighing at 150lbs average weight and some luggage would put anywhere from 700-800lbs of weight in the car. You will easily be dragging ***. I would highly advise against it. A Uhaul would be the most feasible, even if it does cost a pretty penny. It's better than having to pay for a new clutch or worse once you get to your destination...if you do.

 

I wouldnt do it..... just because you can run in to some problems that may cost you more money in the long run. I found it pretty funny when my friend was towing his 2 wave runners every summer with his turbo gsr, but his transmission is crap now!

 

Yes in the owners manual they say u can tow with any model but the type r

 

lol its gotta tow hitch use it j/p..... I don’t think it would be healthy for your car but if that’s all you have to get you to Maryland do it.... just get going really fast before you get to any hills

where can you hook the ball hitch to the integra? At the tow hook?
