I want to do awd in my ef hatch
my friend was telling me that can do an awd ef hatch by simply taking that awd system from the same model civic except awd wagon and all i would have to do is get the b20 awd and swap it in and use the driveline from the ef wagon... is this possible or not???
anything is "possible" only depends on how much $$$ you are willing to spend. Is it feasible? absolutely NOT. The rear diff from the EF AWD is so small and puny it wouldnt stand up to anything more than stock torque of the D15 engine it was mated to. My friend and I tried to make an AWD crx a few years ago and first thought of going this route. The gears and casing from the rear diff is just WEAK. If you want an AWD car, just get an EVO. It will cost less and perform better. Spend the money elsewhere on the car (more power, better suspension) and you will be happier!
Disclaimer: I am not trying to talk anyone into buying a Mitsu. Civics are not designed to be AWD. Maybe Honda will build an AWD platform in the near future since they are getting more involved with WRC but for the time being, Mitsu and Subie are the leaders in AWD technology.

Save your money and buy a used subaru WRX. AWD, turbo lots of upgrade paths. AWD conversion is just too complicated for a DIY project. Keep your hatch and just turbo it or something.

it's actually realtime awd with a clutched rear diff, so..."if either of the front wheels begins to lose traction, oil pressure causes the multi-plate clutch to mesh and transit torque to the rear wheels." - from honda-tuning, sourced from http://www.honda.net.my

he probably knows that. but the b20 from the crv uses an awd tranny.
actually, you dont even really need the b20. you could get any other bseries you wanted, and just use the crv tranny.

A post like this pops up at least once a month.
You will need to choose your motor. B series, go with CRV drivetrain. D series, go with RT4WD drivetrain.
Check out http://www.hondacivicwagon.com for lots of info on the wagovans.

get a DSM
or build a nice fwd civic.
so many people waste money on **** like this, dont be the next.
sorry if that sounds like a total dick, but its the best advice youll ever hear. my friends dsm running 14 lbs awd kills my b16 crx, and he has plans to run closer to 20 when he gets his fuel pump in.
hell you can even find a 2wd eclipse or plymoth laser for DIRT CHEAP and swap drivetrains for AWD with a turbo for less then 1/5 what it would cost for whats being discussed here.
and if your doing it to be different, well theres no such thing for these cars. you want to mount an alcohol fueled supercharged oldsmobile big block in the back cabin with a running 4 cylinder in the front and the option of even running them simultaneously?
its been done.
you want 4wd? start with a car thats meant for it, build it up. use the civic as your daily driver.

I paid only $24k for my evo. I have seen other used evos for as little as $21k. You could NOT do a AWD civic that is as fast and reliable as a stock evo for anywhere near $20k
