JDM head.
I know that for the ls/vtec swap the head is usually a b16a. But i have a 89 honda crx si jdm head on it. i was wondering if anyone knew the type of head that is. its says on the side pr3, does that mean anything? i cant explain what im asking for. the number or the type of head. what ever it means to call it a b16a. so what is mine.....sorry that i could not make more sense
alright. thanx man. its go any further then that? b16 _ _ ? if you know. its just that i am trying to get the rest of my engine together to get it into my car. and even though its a jdm head....i can still use most parts from like American ****?
Are you sure its a JDM? pr3...
!stGen b16, B17, 2ndGen B16, ITR.
They all share the same casting. IT will be like PR3-2, PR3-3, or PR3-4 thouse numbers mean nothing expect a PR3 casting.
Look between the distributor and Vtec solenoid on the top. See if you see a raised P30 (i think its P30)
That means its not a 1st gen b16. If the cam spray bars are machined, its not a 1st gen b16 eaither.
Check for green paint on dizzy mount on top, its like a light green. Means its a ITR.
Goodluck. Only way to tell, is to inspect ports/Valve train and cams.

well the ports have been port and polished, the cams are crower stg 1, and the valve train is all type-R
But ill take a look at the rest and see what it is and get back to you

Tsk tsk tsk, you know sir newb-a-lot that CRXs out of the states came with spiffy options such as B-Series motors stock.

could come from a 88-91 JDM Civic/crx sir..
or a JDM integra xsi..
So yeah it could be from a 89 crx..but who knows, you would have to check with the person you bought it from..

its super easy to tell the gen of pr3 head you have.
All Honda heads are stamped with pairs of circled numbers next to the exhaust flanges. My 1st gen B16A is stamped 9/0 meaning a 1990 model. The other engine i have for my crx is a 2000 B18C type R. The pr3 head found on it is stamped 0/0. This is a great way to identify exact years of engine packages.
Btw, it should be know that all pr3 heads are the same casting from all generations, with a slight advantage going to the bery 1st gen due to the more dense version of metal used due the 1st run of the head. It was a little better quailty.
