horsepower: (what mods u have) 227hp@crank (rated), stock
driver technique: 5000rpm brief clutch slip, loosen visor before launch
other: I haven't actually been to the strip, but I'm pretty sure my car would nail a 1.9 or better if I knew anything about drag-racing.

Are you guys using the Mugen pedals to do this? Do you wear a galosh overtop of your shoe?

I use Mugen pedals and Nike Air Launch shoes. That is why I can run 1.9 second 60' times stock. Promise.

BTW, my other car...

wheels: stock
tires: no tires, just run on wheels
suspension: front coilover system, solid rear end
horsepower: 0
driver technique: deep breath and then kick hard enough to shame a mule
other: car is JD Razor B1 aluminum scooter. Needs wheelie bars to keep 'driver' aboard during hard launches. Don't ask how I know this.

this is what I have and I am not pleased with its performance at all.. Im trying to figure out a long term plan to get to my goals of consistant 1.960ft's without slicks..

wheels:17" Racing Hart C2 evos(I realize these are not what I need for drag racing and they will probably be the first thing to go)
tires:Toyo FZ4, 205/40/17
suspension:Neuspeed coilovers(probably the only good thing i have for drag racing)
horsepower: app. 200-220whp
driver technique:I havent found any technique yet to work
other:

As of now im hitting consistant 2.460ft, sometimes 2.3.. I am launching the same 60ft as i was without turbo.. Im not experienceing any wheel hop and at the track theres not alot of spin either.. Im attributing this slow start to my 17's.. with 15's will I increase my chances of wheel hop? Im planning to run the new BF goodrich Drag Radial on some stock GSR wheels..

Also youll laugh at this but I am running a stock clutch, this is probably playing the biggest factor, when I was running it at the track it wasnt slipping yet though..

I know I need to do this in steps and getting down to my goal is gonna take some time.. I think first I just need to get my clutch in, then ill see how I do on the 17's and hopefully some 15s with drag radials will improve further.. I already have some z10 radius arms chillen in my room but im not even experiencing wheel hop so im questioning that whole purchase but im sure ill be happy with em later..

I think i have a good foundation for my suspension, the neuspeed coilovers although they are only ride hieght adjustable and not shock adjustable.. I have considered going to a stiff spring/adj shock combo instead but im not sure weather it would be better..

After that I think ill just need to figure out the proper way to luanch, tire pressure, etc and see what does best for me.. anything else you guys can think of that i need?

Because you seem like a nice guy who just wants to improve on whatever "floats your boat" - drag racing as in your case, I'll leave the jokes aside. I really doubt a FWD on street tires can pull anything below a 2.0. Maybe an ultra light CRX? Not sure how you got 220 whp, but if you're turbo then it would be even harder to get a good 60 ft time... I really can't give you any advice since you problably know more about running down the 1/4 than I do.

I would recommend something else though. Give autocross a try! 99.9% of the people in the Competition forum are not into drag racing, but are autox and/or track (as in a racetrack) enthusiasts. This is why I like this forum so much and maybe will be the reason why you will start to really appreciate it also after you've been converted to one of us. We all like braking and turning and find going in a straight line quite boring. Good luck with your 60-ft times for now.

I had prepared this - NOT a rag on the poster, moreso to rag on some of the goofier **** I've read about the importance of brakes with mods (ok, I was up late) and I really thought the post was going this way anyways

wheels: 17x9 Steelies
tires: Summitomo HRZII 255/30-17
suspension: full leda suspension
horsepower: 370
driver technique: put it into neutral, run it up to 2100 rpm and put it in D2
other: car is a '93 968 with a 952 motor boared 40 over with carbon-kevlar sleeves, solid motor mounts, K&N air filter, K-27 turbo fed by Vortec Supercharger at the low end with a pnuematic cutover to a Weiand Blower at 2800 rpm, shimmed wastegate, nitrous glove box kit (professionally installed), ARM and ARC II (don't want to run rich). ASGM Stage II (the original not that Greddy POS), Mugen pedals (swap out with the OMPs when wearing my dress shoes) and I run the swapped out the stock 4 pot brakes with the single piston 944 caliper to reduce unsprung weight. I can only muster a 2.2 sec.

-Motor mount inserts
-Fresh clutch
-"Power brake" at the line to help build b00st. (I think the lag may be the issue)
-Practice

Will
-who got a 2.3 in his R... because he takes it easy on his baby.

Don't think you are ever going to hit 1.9 on streets with FWD. Although I don't drag race I have been to pro solos where the 60ft times are announced. The only folks in the 1.9s are the awd guys or serious hp rwd.

My ITR has done 2.3s consitently with DOT legal race tires. I expect at a stickier drag strip I might get down to 2.1.

If you want to go faster get rid of the big wheels. You should go back to the stock size of 14" and as wide a front tire as will fit. Try adjusting your suspension with the rear as low as possible. The idea is to reduce weight transfer during launch so make the rear shocks and springs as stiff as possible and leave the fronts reasonable. Try launching at 3500-4000 with a slight bit of clutch slip and gradual power increase. Your goal is to get just a tiny bit of wheel spin and minimum engine bogging. Tires grip the best when they have a 10% slippage.

Good luck.

PS Autocrossing is more fun - try it

Bryan Sprinkel can pull constant 2.1s in his ITR.. I guess that was because of the A032Rs.. I can pull 2.2 in the prelude, but it has pretty decent torque to make up for its weight..

You have to find the sweet spot to launch at really.. The point in which you have just enough wheel spin so you don't bog, but not to much so your not just sitting there spinning. I highly doubt you would be able to hit 1.9 with street tires, unless like someone said maybe a CRX on 225s with a LSD or something..

I don't know why so many people in here rag on drag racers. Apparently they don't know or think it's a legitimate sport and takes just as much talent to excel as any other motor sport.
Anyways, 1.9 60' for a FWD on street tires is improbable. I guess the best you could do would be the widest, smallest diameter wheel and widest, tallest profile tire you can fit with ultra low pressure and find the launching RPM sweet spot where your tires hook up at your engine's torque peak, not power peak.

Not a FWD Honda, but I got a best of 2.08 in my old SE-R on 195/55/14 Bridgestone RE-71s. That was with the stock VLSD (aka, box of jello), so maybe -- maybe -- a 1.9 would be possible in a FWD Honda with a Quaife or something like that and a little bit stickier street tires. The only thing is that you'd probably have to spend more than $150 per tire to have a shot (like BFG KD's or something like that).

Since you mentioned that you have adjustable coilovers, and you have the front lowered, check your camber! For drag racing you want as little camber as you can get so that the tire sits flat on the ground for the biggest contact patch. And as other said, the 17's have to go.

Good luck!

I have run high 2.0's in my CRX at the drag strip. I have not gotten a 1.9. I was running the stock wheels with 195 SP8000's. The car is set up for autocrossing suspension wise. I/H/E It also has a light weight flywheel and a Quaife (although I have done it before the Quaife as well). As far as driver technique...I would get the revs to between 2000-3500, depending on what the surface was like and slightly slip the clutch as I floored it on the launch.

I have seen people launching higher and slipping the clutch more, but it is real hard on the car. And takes a very good touch to get it right with out frying the tires.

It's possible. A budddy pulled a high 1.8 in a old-skool Protege on Kumho Ecstas. He has the time slip to prove it. I'm just waiting to next year to see if it's repeatable, because like you said, it's improbable in a FWD street car. He is also pretty good at bracket racing in general - consisitent ETs and usually a R/T better than .52

Nobody here rags on drag racers. Its street "racers" that catch hell.

Oh, well this guy got a lot of sarcastic answers before any real help. His subject is 60 ft times, which are not measured in street racing, correct?

Anyone know if it might help to either disconnect the front sway or shim the front sway? Not sure if FWD cars generate enough twist that would bring the swaybar into play during a launch. Just a thought.

I didn't see any mention of tire pressures, what are you running for drag?
