CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Former Trans-Am champion Boris Said will race next year in a minimum of 10 NASCAR Nextel Cup events for a newly formed team.
MB/Sutton Motorsports will field a Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Said, beginning in February with the season-opening Daytona 500. The new team will be co-owned by Nelson Bowers, who owns MB2 Motorsports, and Robert E. Sutton, CEO of Denver-based Centrix Financial.
The 42-year-old Said has driven in 12 Cup races since 1999. All but three have been at Sonoma and Watkins Glen, the only two road courses on the Cup schedule.

I wonder if this just PR or does he really mean it? none the less I would like to see him win, He has come really close Nascar.

that's great for Boris . . . . but it seems like a waste of telent to have such a good road racer going round in circles most of the time. . . . .
I'm still in awe of how he ended this seasons Speed GT last race. Talk about pressure.

nascar is a much better paycheck than any of the other racing series in america, by far.. you might call it a waste of talent, but he's calling it a paycheck.. something I'm sure any number of us would jump at the chance if offered..
i'm not its biggest fan, but you can't criticize his decision, i'd say..

oh yeah no doubt about it. If you want to get payed in American racing NASCAR is the only place to do it. Knowing how Boris is I'm sure he'll race other cars any chance he gets too.

It is only a waste of talent if he is dominating, which he definitely will not. I'm sure he'll do fine, but the other top road racers that have tried NASCAR such as R. Gordon, Nadeau, Pruett, C. Mears, etc. haven't exactly set the stock car world on fire.

actually that makes it more of a waste then. If he could be dominating in road racing, but is just getting by in NASCAR it's a waste of a good talented driver. Hopefully he gains a good fanbase and enlightens america to some "other" forms of racing
He may need to change his name from Boris to Bubba tho

???
How is it a waste if the driver is challenging themself? Is it more respectable to be a winner in a Formula Mazda than a 15th place driver in F1, if the driver could openly choose between the two?

Somehow I think going 200 mph while in the middle of a traffic jam is tougher than it looks. Actually I have logged a few laps at Talladega (the "real" one), and that place is bumpier and more of a handful than it looks. I can't image what it's like to be out there with 42 other guys. (By the way, Boris was my Skip Barber instructor back when he ran SSGT cars, so it's nice to see him finally have a shot at becoming famous--the guy is way tallented.)
Said is on record as saying that he really wanted to become a "real" Cup driver, rather than a good road racer in a Cup car for two races a year. The biggest problem is going to be that 10 races is still a long way from a full season, he won't have any provisionals to get him into the field, and new teams pretty much always struggle.

well no that's different. Formula Mazda compared to F1 is like the Long Beach Traffic Circle compared to NASCAR. OK I admit, that's a stupid analogy
So lets talk reality I'd rather #1 in Speed WC, ALMS, Grand-AM, or Trans-AM than 15th in NASCAR, but that's just me. It sounds like Boris is happy with the change so that's good for him, hopefully he'll still be able to drive cars that I'll watch tho.

I doubt it, unfortunately. There was an interview with him and Bill Auberlen on the SPEED Channel's site a few weeks before the Fontana Grand-Am race where he said he is going to have to cut back on the road racing in order to focus on NASCAR, partly because of the Dale Jr. incident at Infineon last summer. Such a shame too, it'd be cool to see him step up and be a modern day "jack of all trades."

I think part of this move is Boris being pissed off at PTG. He might feel as if they took away a championship by forcing him away from Auberlien and giving his car second priority. If this is true we may never see him race Rolex Cup again
I wish Boris the best of luck. He's one of my favorite road racer dudes
He'll have a really tough time next year with a start-up team, and only 10 events.
