Default catback exhaust

Im going to be putting a catback exhaust on my 97 accord this spring. I would like to know what would be the best system? I want one that has a really deep agressive sound. No whining exhaust.

dont put some cheap *** muffler on your car, you will regret it. You will hate the sound, because when a muffler shop makes your exhaust they make the pipe minus the resonator. This sounds like **** and has that high pitched noise. Get a REAL catback like the HKS or GReddy.

the accord is chock-full of intake and exhaust restrictions it takes a good bit o effort to remove

Dude just 'cause someone says go to a muffler shop and get a custom made exhaust doesn't mean it's gonna be cheap ****.
We're not talking Midas here.
Do we really have to say go to a REPUTABLE HIGH QUALITY muffler shop and get a custom 2.25 inch system made with HIGH QUALITY 2.25" STAINLESS STEEL TUBING and a HIGH QUALITY STAINLESS STEEL MUFFLER with 2.25" input/output. If someone really likes their car, getting the best one can afford should be common sense.
But anyways, that sounds like overkill for this person. If you want an easy, bolt-on system, you can't go wrong with Greddy.

lets see here, you can go buy a cheap universal muffler and have Billy Bob at the muffler shop install your CRUSH bent pipe, which creates restriction, or you can buy a good quality exhaust that has mandrel bends and very little restriction.

Point is that Greddy, HKS dyno tune their exhaust systems to make the most power. A universal muffler has very little, if any, research involved in its design. Save your money and buy a REAL exhaust, it is worth it in the long run.

This statement is just too vague for my tastes.

Default i went with the GReddy SP too

a few things i hope u guys understands before asking/discussing about exhaust.
power/sound/price
these are three things that everyone concerns.

1. Power - more air combust with more fuel = horsepower, so the larger the piping, the more air can flow thru the exhaust system, therefore more fuel can combust with new air therefore more horsepower. But if the piping is too big, u will lose backpressure, and therefore have negative torque in the low end of rev, and better accerleration at the high end.
But guys, be real, do we really need high end? my accord has 6.5k as the redline, unlike the integra that have the extra 3000rpm to play with. so i believe i or we really do need backpressure.

2. Sound - Everyone wants 'nice deep throaty sound', 'i don't want no whiny, farting sound' Guys, imagine u urself blow in a tube or blow in a bottle, what will be a deeper sound? 2L coke bottle and a small coke bottle, which will be a deeper sound. exactly, the larger the size the more the resonance will sound, yes, that's right, a 3" or a 4" and a huge huge cannister will give u the sound u want. BUT if the pipe or the cannister is too big, u will hear scraping noises when u are on ramps and stuff.

Power VS Sound, u want more power or better sound? for Naturally Aspirated cars about 150 hp, a 2" and 2.25" pipings are the best. for 150-250 2.5" pipes are the best, for hp close to 280, 3" are the best.
and these applied to accords, coz accords have low rev limit. very low indeed.
i personally running F/I with 230hp and i have 2.5" Greddy SP, i like it a lot

Oh price, if u want deeper sounds out of the deep sound, get branded ones, because the metal is thicker and high frequcy sounds will be kinda eliminated with thicker metals. cheap mufflers are thinner in metal yet vibrate more then high pitched whining noise is acheived. market price is cat back piping is 150 from muffler shop, muffler is 90

Catylic convertor, this 'cat' converts dirty air to clean air, this majorly slows down the air flow, so random technology made this hi flow cat so air flows 2x faster, worth the price about $200, if u are ghetto style, take the cat out, u get much more raw sound, the air coming out from ur exhaust will be like bluish if u have a high mileage engine, and your check engine light will most probably come on, so your best bet is the hi flow cat.

please feel free to contact me if u have more questions i will be glad to answer before seeing anyone dissapointed with their exhaust system.

yes you do need high end man, low end torque is not in the nature of ANY 4 cyl and some 6 cyl motors the powerband begins in the mid range and on up to the top, this is where you need the gains. I have 2.5" from the collector of my headder on back. Why do you need power down low, you shoot through that range before you even know it, and if you know how to drive you wont see the bottom end in the next gears at all

alright, time for me to chime back in on this topic........... a real catback is just a pipe that runs from the collector back. Gressy or HKS are just real expensive catbacks. Maybe my muffler shops are a little more advanced but the fellas I use mandrel bend the pipe and build most of the V8 exhaust systems in my area. You guys seem to argue over a bolt on that adds little horsepower on its own.
Sound does not equal power. Listen to the V8 trans am cup cars. The corvette's sound like 4 cylinders. True dragsters run straight pipes. The Spoon racing muffler for the Type R is one of the loudest "buzzing" exhausts sold on the market.

I think this is an arguement of taste. I can get an high quality exhaust built for about $200. This is from header back and includes a muffler. I personally hate fat pipes because they are sold for sound and most are illegal. They also seem to not go very well with a lowered car, and lowering the car and putting a fat can exhaust on are the first things people tend to do.
