Can someone tell me why Honda would buy a non-controlling 40% of a racing team? I am not knowledgable enough to see how the numbers add up to a profitable outcome for a partial owner. Where's the profit? :scratches head:

Profit is a being part of a very succesful and well estalbished afer only being 5 years old F1 team.

Honda has always wanted to have a honda-honda f1 team this way they are getting that much closer

I'm sure they got a good deal on it. What use does BAT have for BAR after 2006 anyway?

I guess this is kinda OT- but - how much profit is there at the end of the year with a team that can COST 400 million to operate? Anyone know?

Well by most accounts BAR-Honda is spending around 225 mil a year. The profits would come from the profit sharing with Bernie (which is a big bone of contention and Bernie's greed may end up splitting the sport) and sponsors. Fila for instance has a $100 million contract with Ferrari.

However I'm thinking overall its not profitable to most of the manufacturers.

well, I also read in F1 magazine that Richards never took a liking to Sato and he felt Sato had yet to impress him-or something to that affect and that the reason Sato was still there, because honda wanted him there.

Honda wants to say "It" beat Ferrari when they win the world championship next year. David Richards was only a consultant to BAR NOT AN EMPLOYEE. Prodrive the company Richards works for will continue working with BAR and then will begin working with Honda on other projects (i.e. Nascar).

Who is Nick Fry? So far all I've found is this:

"It is unlikely that Honda is going its own way without Prodrive, if only because in addition to his F1 role, Nick Fry is also the managing director of the entire Prodrive company. Fry is a high-flyer who was managing-director of Ford subsidiary Aston Martin before being recruited by David Richards in 2001. Under his guidance Prodrive has boomed, becoming one of the world's most successful motorsport and vehicle technology businesses, generating over $160m in turnover per annum and employing close to 1000 people worldwide.

Fry joined Ford after graduating in economics from the University of Wales in 1977. In 1992 he was appointed as the director of operations at Aston Martin, which Ford was in the process of trying to sort out. He coordinated the reorganisation of the firm and the DB7 programme before being promoted in 1997 to become the brand manager of large cars at Ford Europe and then as business director for the Cologne-based firm. He moved to Prodrive in 2001 as MD of Prodrive Automotive Technology and a year later became group managing director."

I'll be looking for the flying pigs if Honda actually does that with the next NSX, as awesome as it would be.
