What exaclty is turboedit?
Heyas guys,
Im eventually planning to turbo a ZC, so ive been looking into fuel management. Ive read about programs for your ECU like hondata etc. Seeing as ZC is ODB0 I heard I could use a program called Turbo edit. How exaclty does this work? Im guessing you soder a chip into your ECU and you can somehow hook a lab top up to it which lets you use the lab top and programs to tune? how does it hook up?
Thanks
~AMH

Turboedit is a program that lets you edit the fuel/timing maps of your ECU. It works by buring the hex file onto a programmable chip that is then inserted into a chippable OBD0 ECU.
The good news is that this an extremely accurate way to tune your car on a low budget, the bad news is that you'll need access to either a dyno or a wideband o2 in order to effectively use it.
Visit http://www.pgmfi.org for more information on ECUs and chipping them.

You put a socket into your ecu..That will except the different chips
Get a chipburner($50-$100) to burn the different chips for your ecu..And buy blank chips
You open up the stock ecu basemap on your computerUsing the turboedit (freeware)..then modify the program with the features..Once you are done you burn a brand new chip with the chipburner and put it into your newly socketed ecu
It's recommended to have a tuner do this though..or someone that knows alot about FI..Because doing it wrong could **** up alot of things..
EDIT:: He beat me to it

There is some links to read up on...these guys explained it well for you.
Also, if you decide to chip your own ECU check the links in my sig...I sell a pretty cheap chipping kit for TurboEdit
If you have any more questions after reading up a little more, PM me...I would be glad to help you out.

Sweet!
Thanks for the great Info guys, and thanks Xeno, I'll be sure to buy from you when I get my set up.
This brings me to my next question:
Do you use any other fuel/engine managment along with Turboedit IE FMU, injectors? fuel pump? or Is Turboedit so good It just suffices itself?

depending on the BIN file you use, 450cc injectors and perhaps a better fuel pump is all you need. of course RTP board and WB are nice additions.

Definitely need larger injectors if you plan on running boost. A fuel pump wont hurt but many get by on stock with low boost (10 psi or lower) setups. No FMU, AFC, missing link or fish tank valves are needed though. DSM 450's are very commonly used and you could probably go as high as 550's and still have a good idle.
You will def need a chip burner to reprogram the chips and a wideband to tune with.
I have the LM-1 by Innovate Motorsports and recommend it highly. The Zeitroix is also a good unit and is cost effective.
